Could someone tell me when is the next Student Nurses Assosciation convention and where it will be held?

I had the chance to see Marlene in Ft. Wayne, IN this March, but just too much going on right now. The topics she covers should great! I'm going with a guy from my nursing school. We are staying at the Peabody. I am looking forward to the convention, as it should be a real learning experience for me as a first year student.

I'm the president for Indiana! I'm sorry you're not going to be able to attend our conference! What school do you go to?

Ivy Tech Indianapolis! That's so funny. I really wanted to attend, but with everything I have to do with school, plus I just got my first SNE job :balloons: !!! I am also the VP of the SNA at school until May when I take over as the Pres. Then outside of school I have four children, 5 if you count the hubby! I really wanted to see Marlene though...Is it too late to sign up?

Nope, it's not too late to sign up! You can even register the day of if you needed to. I go to Ivy Tech in New Castle, but graduate in May. I'm starting on my BSN at IUPUI in August. Well, it's all online, but that's my plan. :)

Congrats on your SNE position! Where are you working? I work as a SNE on an OB unit, but I don't think that's where I want to work when I'm done.

The position I took is at IU hosptial, Med/Surg, but mostly Surg. I am also applying for a SNE program through Wishard (summer only) in the ER. Hopefully I get that, and I will just do both, then after August decide which I prefer.

I intend on attending IUPUI myself when finished. They have an ASN to MSN program that I am going to look into.

We should get together during the convention and chat!

That would be great! I looked into the ASN-MSN and thought it said you had to be a licensed RN for two years before starting the program. Have you seen something different? I had thought about it too, but when I saw that I changed my mind. Maybe you know something else...I very well could have read it wrong!

I interviewed at Clarian for an OB ICU SNE position, but after the interview decided I didn't want to do it. In that department they wanted someone to stock, answer call lights, etc. Where I'm at now I typically have the nursery to myself, so the babies are my group. I felt like it was taking a step backwards in responsibility. They offered for me to interview elsewhere (because I know not all depts are like that), but I declined. I will probably resign my current position in May anyway and really take the whole summer off before starting work for good in September. :)

Nope, I think you are right, must have 2 years....but I figure after I finally finish this I'll probably NEED 2 years to recoup (sp) before I go back anyway!!!! :selfbonk:

For IU I am pretty much a PCT until August when I will have med/assessement orientation, but at this point, I don't really care! I have never worked in health care, so giving myself a slow start, especially with school going, is probably a good idea!

Specializes in ICU.

This sounds cool. What types of things do you do at these conferences? Do they go to different cities each year? I'm a pre-nursing student, but I would love to get involved into some type of student nurse association/club when I start my program.

DecafMom will have to tell you about the conference as this is my first year attending. Joining your school chapter of SNA is a lot of fundraising, charity, and volunteer work. Your school may or may not give extra credit for doing some of these things. We get 1/2 point towards clinical grade for certain things, but the school decides which activities will recieve this. I love being involved though. You get to meet many people, make decisions that effect you school's nursing program/students, and help others all at the same time. It is really worth looking into!
