Hi, everyone!

I'm attempting to gather information about various Nursing programs here in Florida, and I have my eye set on pursuing the one offered by CFCC.

There is an information session that that particular community college offers which I'll be attending in upcoming weeks; but before I do so, I would like to ask anyone who should like to respond a two point question.

It's my understanding (based on, yes, double- and triple-hearsay), that CFCC currently has a waiting list of (about) two years. I also believe, according to a particular academic advisor, that there are going to be admissions changes being made, primarily focusing upon extra pre-req classes and a higher stat standard, based on GPA and an admissions test.

So: i) What is the CURRENT process of admission to the ADN program offered by CFCC? Is it primarily "first come is first served?" and ii) IF the admissions process were changed to reflect the above changes, for the purpose of weeding out "less" qualified (motivated, hard-working, etc.) students, do you believe the waiting list would be reduced significantly?

I, like many other students who desire to be an RN very strongly, find it to be very frustrating to wait a very long period of time before beginning core Nursing studies. The ratio of prospective students to available seats is high to low, so, although it is understandable that the wait is long, it is not acceptable that the criteria should be based on time of application alone.

Hm.

It seems DBCC has a LOT of Liberal Arts classes you are required to take for the general education portion of their ASN. I've never seen "Art Appreciation" listed as a pre-requisite for successful completion of Sciences degree. That's very interesting!

Do you know what the status of a wait time is for this college?

(It seems excellent by the way.)

Edit: reading DBCC's information on their ASN program more clearly, OBVIOUSLY, you don't have to take all of the Liberal Arts classes they list; they are merely to be considered as potential options. Woops! :imbar

Hi there! Well I can only tell you my experience. I was attending CFCC taking my pre reqs. As soon as I had enough credits to apply to the program itself, I did. I was told there were upcoming changes that would reflect the waiting list. Well lo and behold, the changes were made, and the waiting list, as far as I know it now, extends until late 2009, maybe later. The problem is, is that there are not enough instructors. You now have to have ALL the pre reqs done before you can apply, and I was told that those who applied previously would have to re apply again. I was sooo frustrated!

I had heard that Webster College, also in Ocala was starting an RN program. They had hundreds of applicants, but I decided to apply anyway. I got in!! I am in my first semester, and it is awesome! As with any new program, they have a provsional license, but they have a proven track record with their LPN program. They have 2 programs: One for those needing pre reqs, and one for those who do not need to take pre reqs. They do their clinicals in local hospitals. Now, it is alot more $$$ than CFCC, but I will be DONE with school at Webster, before even getting into the program, had I waited for CFCC. I could not see the point in going to school, getting all my pre reqs done, and then waiting for 2 years to get into a program. But this is only MY opinion. I hope that my info helped, but do not write off nursing, just because CFCC has a waiting list. There are other good schools close by( Webster, Santa Fe) Good luck to you!

I know this post is old but I hear that CFCC has new requirments. What does the entrance exam involve if any one knows and also is there still a two year waiting list now that they have implemented this entrance test?

As far as I know, there is no longer a waiting list at CFCC, but you have to score very well on their entrance exams to be considered. I do not know what the requirements are on the exam. You also need to have all the pre reqs completed. Things change alot. You may want to contact the Nursing advisor just to be sure.
