In order to become a psych np, do you need to go to a program track specifically for psychiatric nurse practitioner? Or is it more of a soft requirement ? Not a lot of psych np programs in my area but it's what I want to do. Is it possible to go some other specialty in school then transition to psych? What's the process for that ?

I tried researching this but i cant find anything reliable .

What sources are you looking at that aren't "reliable"? In order to become a psych NP, you have to complete a psych NP program (MSN or DNP, or post-MSN certificate if one already has an MSN in something else) and pass the national certification exam. What is anyone saying other than that??

I've heard one person say you can go to an FNP program and take some test to become a psych NP? That doesn't sound legit at all.

Psych NP is a specialty, it requires specific coursework and clinical work to qualify for the board exam, attending an FNP program will not qualify you to take the PMHNP exam

You can get your fnp then do a post masters and get the certificate then take the psych exam.

Unfortunately, a fair number of employers hire NPs with any certification (FNP, Acute care, ANP) for psychiatric jobs. This is particularly prevalent in LTC in the northeast. I find that the outcomes many times leave something to be desired.
