Can I become a Nurse Practitioner with an ADN and a bachelors degree in psychology?

  1. I am currently in an ADN program but I also have a bachelors degree in psychology. I was wondering if after i become an RN i can apply to a FNP masters program. I've heard RNs need at least have 2 years experience working as an RN before. However, what i would like to know is if it's possible to get be a nurse practitioner with an ADN and a bachelors in a field other than nursing OR if I need to get my BSN before becoming a nurse practitioner. Hope I made sense... thank in advance for any feedback I'm in Fresno, California. Not sure if this varies by location or not

Have you looked at any of the requirements for admission into these programs you're interested in applying to? It should be listed there which would answer your question.

There are some NP programs that will take people with ADNs but without a BSN. Most of them include in the MSN program the BSN-completion program content, and the program ends up being a little longer than a standard MSN. And, of course, going that route would seriously limit your choice of programs. But it is an option.

    Best wishes for your journey!

Yes, there are programs that will accept you with an ADN. If you complete an internet search using either "ADN to MSN" or "ADN to nurse practitioner" you will find many.

    Best wishes.
