student nurse employment

I am a first year student nurse in Victoria, am I allowed to work as a div 2 nurse or without any qualification?

You cannot work as a nurse of any category without being licensed for that classification. You may be able to find some tech positions or nursing asst positions, but definitely not one that requires a license as you will not have that.

Best suggestion for you is to check out the licensing requirements for your state as well as what you can and cannot do as a student.

Hi,

It's great that you are thinking of getting some work experience in the healthcare sector before you graduate.

Many nursing students work as a Personal Care Assistant (PCA) or Nursing Assistant (NA) in Nursing Homes while they do their course.

During her first year in Semester 1 my daughter did a level 2 first aid course one weekend. At the beginning of Semester 2 she sent of applications & her cv to nearby nursing homes and got a job as a Nursing Assistant.

To become registered as an EN (Div 2 in Vic) you need to complete 2 years of your course and complete a module which is about the role of the Div 2 nurse. Mayfield education run the module several times a year.

My daughter chose not to register as a Div 2, but to stay as a PCA as the pay is not much different.
