Student, mom, wife... In that order

I held a 3.81 GPA through pre req's; Yay me, right?! I start nursing school in one month and I am so nervous!

I was part of Corporate America for 14 years and then made the decision to go back to school to finish what I've always had a dream to do... Be a nurse! I became a young mom and wife and have always put that dream on hold... Circumstances have put me in a position to make a move! I know I can do this but once and a while I wonder at 36, can I? I am not working but life is busy as a mom and student. I am proud of my journey so far and will be thankful in the end but nursing school scares the hell out of me! I know it's going to be the hardest thing ever but I want to stay confident that I can do it! I am not a straight A like most of these younger girls are... But I hope my wisdom and motherhood along with some books smarts can make me successful.

I need your opinions, advice, and tricks to help me! Anyone out there that can relate?!

With love,

I have the same fears as you. I have two young kids, a husband, and now nursing school next month. I just look at it as 4 semesters. Semesters go by pretty quickly for me. Whenever I feel overwhelmed or frustrated, I think about how quickly the time goes by no matter how difficult the work is.

I'm very organized and use a planner for every single assignment. It helps me prioritize because I can look and see what's due next and also see which ones I'll need more time to complete. I work and read ahead as much as possible.

Reminding myself to take it semester by semester, week by week, assignment by assignment, day by day is the best way to keep myself focused and less stressed. We can do this!!

You will do just fine. I am also a wife, mother and student my nursing classes begin in January as well January 11th to be exact. I wonder sometimes how I will get through I'm a certified pharmacy technician as well as a certified medical assistant, although I learned a lot working in both fields nursing has always been my absolute passion and goal. I know with God and faith I will get through this nursing program. God Bless you.

Yes we can! I am very organized and have used this method during my previous year in school! One semester at a time, one assignment and one exam at a time too. Thank you for the advice and good luck to you!

Thank you! I have thought about getting CNA certified and using this experience for school as well as good background for a job in the future although I'm hearing school nursing and career nursing is very different.

I'm going to take one step at a time and see where the path takes me.

Thank you and good luck!

God bless you on your journey :-)

What school are you attending if you don't mind me asking???

I'm attending a SUNY community college in Western NY

Oh wow okay I live in Columbus Georgia but I an attending a school in Dothan Alabama for my nursing

Great! Best of luck!

You will do awesome, you know why? Because as mothers we are some of the most stubborn ass people known to man lol we don't give up. I am 28 w/ 3 small kids, I started my pre-reqs 2 years ago, have a 4.0 GPA. I worked full time for most of that, gave birth to our third child 2 weeks before finals (took my finals with my post partum pad diaper on lol) and I have literally given up everything and laid it on the line to get into the program. I start in July and I get nervous. Half the LPNs in the bridge cycle this year failed out the first semester. But failure is not an option for me and it never will be. That erases my anxiety because I know when it comes down to it, I will do what it takes to graduate. My kids/husband do come first in my heart but it would be a lie to say if they do not loose time with me because of school, they do, lots of it. But it is temporary and I have their full backing (well maybe not the 12 month olds lol he misses the boob too much) and that's my fuel to finish. Good luck, your going to do great.

Thankyou I really appreciate that. You are right mothers are determine creatures. My husband and I have 5 children all girls so I understand completely. I am in a part time track RN program, at first I was worried about finishing two semesters later than the traditional track but you know what completing the program successful is more important that finishing quick. I am truly blessed to have that option at the school I am attending. You will finish successfully as well. God bless you :-)

This is amazing! Thank you!! And you're absolutely right... Moms are pretty bad ass!

Getting into the program was an awesome accomplishment as well! Kept my GPA high and had to take the entrance exam (which not all schools make you do) and I cried when I found out I made it in! I worked so hard for that and I will work just as hard for the next 4 semesters...

school mom and wife in that order just simply because they will sacrifice while I complete school but again no one is deprived. We have an amazing family network of support and I'll be missing out on some stuff but they know it's all worth it.

Good luck to you and congrats on all your hard work! Working, having babies, school... Wow.
