Student Loan Illiterate ...

I actually just went through https://studentloans.gov/myDirectLoan/index.action (Studentloans.gov) and took the Entrance Counseling for the College that I am currently attending. After I completed it, they prompted me that my school will be informed within a 24-hour period that my EC has been completed, then I suppose I go from there.

While I am almost certain I'll continue to receive Pell, I do plan on quitting my job to go into Nursing School. With that being said, I actually plan on quitting months before then to finish up on my pre-reqs. I'm saving up my paychecks right now up until September 29th, and then I'll be focusing 100% on my full load of pre-reqs - with that being said, am I safe to rely on Pell and Student Loans after my cash flow turns low due to necessities?

I am still considered a dependent, but have received enough pell throughout my past terms. I plan on having more than enough to cover my expenses of car insurance, transportation, gym membership, and cell for over 6 months in my own savings.

My complications come in from my strive to get into my Nursing Program in January since there currently is no wait list. It is mapped out that quite a bit of book costs/supplies will be over my Pell grant - is it 100% that I will receive a student loan to cover these amounts or majority of them? Do I need to wait until my acceptance to NS, or should I go ahead and get the loan during my last pre-reqs semester?

I feel it's my best interest to stop working and focus solely on my Nursing career. It's definitely not because I don't want to work. I just have a fear of screwing up my GPA and I want supple amount of time to put into studying and other school-related aspects. That's not dumb right?

I think I'm just worried of student loans, because I do not know of anyone who has went through the process, and I just want to make sure that I am guaranteed to receive a loan - considering I will have no income. I'd hate to quit my job, get no loan, and not be able to attend Nursing School. I'd be devastated of that. :clown:

Maybe I'm just stressing out too much and my mom keeps horrifying the outcomes of student loans. I just don't know where else to turn, than to a forum full of amazing nurses and students who have went through it all!

If anyone has any answers/advice, please, please inform me! I'm freaking out quite a bit on my best options and I don't want to screw myself over in the process.

Hi, I'm sorry I'm off topic but where did you find a nursing program with no wait list? Is the program a lottery system? Is the program new?

It's at my technical college, I'm from a small city and it's LPN Program. I suppose I should have been more specific or spared you all of the off-topic details. There is a college campass here that has a HUGE wait list for it's BSN Program, but I have a different route I'm taking to get there, as I've talked to a lot of other college students who just couldn't stand to wait on that list, so they transferred here.

oh no worries, but I got excited there for a minute. It's so hard finding nursing programs.

Good Luck on your loan question

No problem, trust me, I understand! It took me forever and a day to decide what was my best route. I had to talk a lot of options over with my adviser and research for what seemed like forever before I finally seen the light of it all. I wish you the best of luck pursuing your journey/career. :)
