Struggling nursing pre-reqs student, need advice!

Published

Greetings to you all, I'm currently attending school trying to complete my pre reqs to get into a nursing program in San Diego, ca. I'm having a hard time getting good grades (failed statistics) I was just wondering if anyone is having or have had this problem? If so what advice could you give me? I'm 110% dedicated to become a nurse but it is kind of hard being focused while trying to be a father to 3 children. Any feed back would be appreciated!

nursing school is going to require crazy amounts of focus and concentration, your pre-reqs are going to be a walk in the park in comparison.

I would say work on time management now, work on how to balance work/school/life now because everything ratchets up in nursing school

Have you tried studying in a group? It helps a lot especially for subjects like statistics, chemistry, anything really! Two or three heads think better than one. Your friends might understand the concepts that you don't and you might understand what they don't. Even if you understand all the material it still helps to make study plans with them or just repeat the material learned from class. Hope it helps!

Time management is key. At my school we have a Learning Resource Center with tutors ..check and see if yours offers the same thing.

Agree with the first comment, you need to work on your study skills and time management and maybe seek out a tutor. You're going to have tons of work piled on to you if you get into nursing school and will be expected to pass everything on the first try - having children is not going to be a valid excuse for failure.

Here is what I would do

1) Find someone in the class who wants to be a study buddy that has as much drive as you do

2) I would review the material within 3 hours after the class has ended

3) I would make sure to mark things that did not seem clear to me so I can get clarification

4) When you receive tests back, look over them. Did you make careless mistakes? Did you misread the question? Or it could be you really did not know the answer it is best to find which one of those is the factor.

5) Do not let past failures discourage you

I am a mother to three children and I always made time for studying. You need to wake up each day and make a plan about what what has to be done. As the saying goes, if their is a will, there is a way.
