Hello all, new to the site.
Just took the boards yesterday and I got all the was to 265... I was so discouraged! I have no idea if I passed or failed. I had drug calc questions, priority, precaution, meds, delegation, psych, maternity, pedi..EVERYTHING! My last question seemed like a trick question to me and by that point I was already convinced I failed.. If this was one of your questions how would you answer?
The questions is not word for word.. but it's the general concept...
The nurse is assigned to a client recently diagnosed with cancer, the client states " I can't belived this is happening to me." What is the BEST response by the nurse?
a. Do you have any questions regarding your condition?
b. You have been though a lot in a short period of time.
I figured B. Because the patient is obviously expressing their feelings and it needs to be acknowledged, but then I was torn for A because it's offering an open ended question, and facilitates the client to ask questions if needed. But then also is it the right time for the nurse to ask if the pt has questions becasue they are in an altered state.. Ughh I dont know! Am I being silly?
I can't remember the other 2 options but I was between these 2.. Please help

of the two answers you provided "A" is actually preferred, since it allows the patient to discuss the situation. You cannot address her concerns unless you know more about what they are. Finances? Fear? Self-identity? "B" would stop the conversation.
As for the score - there is nothing to do but wait. So stressful I know. I wish you the best.

Neither one strikes me as terribly therapeutic. A seems to be avoiding emotions, B seems to assume it's been a short time.

Welcome to post traumatic NCLEX syndrome. I found the wait to be worse than the test. Try and stay busy. Someone can pass at 75 or 265. Sending you good thoughts and keep us posted.

My daughter just passed with 265 questions. Two of my co-workers had all the questions as well and passed.
The wait is horrible. Treat yourself to something special because you deserve it after all that you have accomplished up to this point. Maybe a soak in the tub, relaxing music, etc.

I passed in 75 questions under two hours, I still had anxiety, because I thought I failed and the computer just got frustrated and kicked me out. Trust me though, nothing compares to anxiety you feel after you've passed the test and the tremendous responsibility you now share as a Registered Nurse. I thought Oh my god, what have I done!!!! better now though.

I would have chosen A, only because it would allow the patient to ellaborate more on their condition if they want.
Try not to worry. When I took my NCLEX-RN I had to go through 265 questions and thought sure I had failed. I had been told that some people taking the test will have to go to the very end just because the computer is programmed that way. I know it's no fun waiting for your test results. I was sitting on the edge for several weeks waiting back in 1996.:wink2:
