I am about to finish my first semester of pre-reqs and I'm starting to worry. I'm really struggling with my biology and after talking to my councelor I am extremely worried. He showed me applications of students that have previously been accepted to the nursing program all had a 3.7 gpa or higher, all worked as CNAs for 6 months or longer, and well I just don't have those opportunities. I'm a mother of a toddler and while in usually great in school as I mentioned early I'm struggling in biology holding a c+ currently with finals 2 weeks away. I have my phlebotomy license but haven't really used it and I have worked as a CNA in the past but need to renew my license. I'm wondering if all this work is worth it or if I should find a different major. I've always wanted to be a nurse I can't imagine wanting to do anything else. Please help.

If you end with a C in Biology, what will your GPA be? Yes, it's true, nursing schools are competitive. The program I am applying for next semester has an average of around a 3.8 for those accepted. If you end with a C in Biology, I would suggest re-taking it next semester and working to obtain a higher grade, which will help boost your GPA. If this is what you truly want to be in life, then do whatever it takes to make it happen. Where there's a will, there's a way.
I will have a 3.4 I believe I will have to retake but the way the program works at my school is you are allotted points for each grade from each class which is combined with your hesi exam and other things then totaled and you are placed on a wait list. It's great for decreasing the wait list however you are given points based on the first time you take the class. It wouldn't matter if I retake it unless I apply elsewhere

I wouldnt give up thats for sure. You just have to get over this hurdle. Finish out the semester & if you end up with a C, retake it next semester. It will be worth it to raise your GPA. I too have always struggled with my maths & sciences, so I understand what you are going through. You just have to work a little harder at it is all but you CAN do it. Get tutoring, get help from your professor, do online tutorials, when you are not in class & any spare time you have go over concepts you arent getting over & over until it sticks. Don't give up!

Please, don't give up! We understand your pain, really.
Study very hard for this final, and you might end up with a "B" grade!
So, go back to studying... Turn your phone off (if you can?) and keep your eyes glued to the books!
Come back after your test and let us all know how well you did!
You can do this!!!
Blessings~

I wouldn't give give up just yet. Just because a few had an average high GPA doesn't mean everyone did. : ) I have 5 kids ages 5-14 with a husband who works a swing shift (so he's gone 12 hours out of the day when he's working) and with ALOT of late nights, I'm currently pulling A's in classes I never thought I would (A&P for starters). I wouldn't give up on your dream, it CAN be done. You put your best foot forward, stay positive and pray! If there's other schools around you, inquire about their programs as back ups. Wishing you all the best!
