Hello all.

When I read through the posts here there is a wealth of information and questions I hadn't even thought of.

One recurring theme however seems to be the overwhelming stress factor with the CPNE.

I would like to work on stress management techniques as I am preparing for the CPNE.

Any advice on what worked for those of you who have been there would be appreciated.

What technique(s) did you use?

Deb,

Sorry no one has responded to your post, but there is no answer for you. You have to figure out what works for you. I hummed a song I love in my head and listened to it over and over in the hotel room. Another student used the hot tub at the hotel as much as he could. There is no way you are not going to be stressed at the CPNE. Just goes with the test.

My intent was not to find one specific answer but to elicit recommendations from those that had passed as to what worked for them.

I am aware that there are many methodologies however I imagine as with everything some would work better than others in a particular situation.

Thank you for responding.

On the day before my CPNE started in Amarillo, I ate at a Chinese restaurant and got a fortune cookie with the following message:

"You are competent, confident, cool and collected."

When I felt the stress starting to build up over the course of the weekend, I replayed that message in my mind.

But I am allergic to chinese so that wouldn't work for me. :lol2:

You can use my fortune! I don't mind! :p

crying helped me. And caffiene/nicotine/food.

so far for me it's been hot soak baths, aromatherapy, candles, good tunes, deep breathing, meditation, relaxation imagery...it seems to be working so far. ask me after next weekend.

what worked for me was a combination of deep breathing, positive self talk like Eric and breaking the exam down. Friday I took one lab at a time, Saturday it was one PCS at a time and on Sunday when I walked out my hotel room as I closed the door I said I'm leaving as a student and walking back in as a a graduate. I passed my CPNE in Amarillo on January 14th. This was my third time taking the dreaded exam, however it was the first time I focused on taking care of me!! I also made sure I had plenty of fruit, juice and water in my room for a quick pick me up.

I'm taking boards on April 17th and plan on applying the same tips to this exam, I hope they work.

Good luck with your CPNE

Lynne

cqmpnurse great job! yes, positive words are important-i figure esp. when on the floor. a deep breath with the "can do" and the mindset to get the task done. i do this at work often-attitude is very helpful. i like eric's 4 c's too. competent, confident, cool & collected...i'll have to steal that, ok? i think i'll take/keep fuel for the body in my room too--good advice! thanks.
