I am working on Anxiety disorders. I have a fill in the blank worksheet. I've answered 70 of the 71 questions, but I just can't find the answer to this one."Term to describe a symptom recognized by the individual as strange or silly is............"
Does anyone know this one?
NEUROSIS!!!!! That has got to be it!!!!!!!!!!!
Interesting.... If it were a class assignment, I would really object if neurotic or neurosis were correct. Both are still household words, but they've long been phased out of official psychiatric lingo.
My guess for irrational was not great either, since very often the patient does not detect that his thoughts/symptoms are irrational and they only appear that way to the care provider.

I totally agree, Eric, and the only reason I thought of those answers is because I AM a former panic D/O patient! Talk about household words--defintiely used in my household!!! I went straight to my psych manual (all my reference books are out right now, NCLEX coming up soon) and your answer of irrational is right on, however not fitting in her puzzle! So we shall see....:monkeydance:
