Stop Foreign Nurses

Published

Foreign Nurses coming to work in our Health Care facilities are the most serious threat to our professional security. They threaten our earning potential as well as are pushing us out of the Long Term Care environment. Kindred Healthcare is one of the biggest offenders. What are your views on this most serious matter now facing our profession.

The issue I see with foreign people coming over to our country (at least with the hispanic population) is that some of them are bilingual and that is a big plus for them seeing as many who come here do not learn the language and our higher ups somehow think that we need to accomodate the non-english speakers. I see job ads now that require a person to be bilingual and it seems to me that they will have the upper hand being able to speak two languages. It may seem short sighted but a great deal of people I know will not learn spanish simply b/c this country is an english speaking one and anyone who comes here needs to learn english. Peace

Do you have any idea how many other countries accommodate English speakers when we're in THEIR country. Not only do they not EXPECT us to speak THEIR language in THEIR country, but they welcome the chance to communicate with us in a language that is FOREIGN to THEIR country. Let's see... I'll start with just about EVERY country in the EU, not to mention at least half of the middle East, and parts of Asia.

My gawd... When did America become so discriminatory to PEOPLE from OTHER countries -- the same people who's ancestors actually built (quite literally!) this country?

If you want to take aim at a company who's bypassing Americans for immigrants, then by all means, go ahead. Or, better yet, why not take aim at the President of YOUR country who's outsourced hundreds of thousands of AMERICAN jobs for "cheap labor" in OTHER countries?

Pay attention to where you're standing when you swing that pendulum.

Ranaazha, I agree with everything you have posted. Unfortunately, ignorance breeds lies. i don't think no amount of rational and educated thinking will change the OP's mind.

Bingo. And, sadly, the more ignorant someone is (oh, and OP, in case you misunderstand the definition of the word "ignorant," why don't you just do some research and look it up on your own...), the more likely s/he is to perpetuate said ignorance without a shed of decency or willingness to view the other side. It's that darn pendulum again! Keeps swinging without stopping to consider the REALITY around it...

My father is for Eastern Europe and my Mother from Western Europe. The rule back then was assimilate into America. They did that. Never attempted to force us to learn their languages but did force themselves to learn English..

They did that because they had to to survive because of threats from people like you! In any case, just speaking English is certainly not enough for "those people" to gain respect from people like you.

I worked as a temp a few years ago at two Kindred hospitals in Philadelphia, PA, and I worked with several very good foreign-trained nurses and respiratory therapists. I also felt that the patients at Kindred Healthcare overall received good care and their outcomes were good. Most of their patients are on vents and are weaned off, usually within 60 days.

I have worked with Filipino nurses for over 30 years and found them to be compassionate, caring, gentle, organized, and great to work with. I believe that nurses are the Phillipines best export!

I have also worked with Korean-born nurses and found them to be excellent.

As a nursing instructor, I've felt there was a shortage of black and hispanic students.

The USA was founded by immigrants who have made our country strong. Just what is your problem???

We as Americans will do just fine. We are are greatest national resource.

Not threats just accepting the American Way as their way for the privilege of being allowed to immigrate here. It is no ones right to immigrate here. The problem today is many immigrants are arrogant and don't see that they are coming into someones home.

Fact: nurses are THE export the Phillipines has. Their country has built a society that is dependent on exporting nurses so that they can send money back home. This is bad business tactics and bad foreign policy on their part. They have done little to improve things in their own country and do not attempt to be self sufficient.

The US was founded by immigrants. These immigrants immersed themselves in the culture and society. They contributed to the overall wellbeing of the country and died trying to make it great. They did not come over on the boat and refuse to participate in improving labor conditions, or women's or civil rights. These immigrants worked alongside and joined unions, they spoke out against corruption. They came here for a better life, not simply to make "big bucks" and then return to their own country.

There is a significant difference in an immigrant coming here to live and become a citizen and contributing member of society and one who is here to exploit the US for money without caring that it is costing people their lives because these nurses are so desperate to get here they will work in crappy places that put money before patient safety.

You cannot save everyone. They have to save themselves. This like a bad co-dependent relationship. Posters say that they want the Filipino nurses here because things are bad in their country. Yes, things are bad. Do you think they will get better when employers in the US promote these nurses being dependent on working in the US for money instead of staying at home and improving their way of life like the US has been doing for 200+ yrs?

This is why nurses don't run this country or the military. Nurses don't understand that you have to play hardball for the good of the many. No, it isn't great that the Phillipines is crummy compared to how our country runs. But we cannot allow our country to go down the toilet because we think we are saving them. I'm sure all of you racist yellers believe that our country does not torture and assasinate people in order to protect you from "terrorists" either.

This is not about race. If every white British nurse on the planet started trying to get to the US so they could make money while allowing employers to run unsafe facilities I would be against them coming here too.

I have yet to see any of the people yelling "racist" to show documentation that the foreign nurses are helping reshape the nursing and healthcare. Perhaps some of you might find some documentation to share to support your claim before you continue to throw names at us.

This is about preserving our economic livelihood. You can cast any "ignorance" label you want but I am only interested in preserving the economic livelihood of American Nurses and not only don't apoligize for it but wear it as a patriotic badge of honor.

All this talk about race is puzzling. Are the detractors of the OP saying that Americans are white and Foreigners are other?????

Why don't you do a commercial for them. Advocate for them against your own countrymen/women. You won't be the first. Remember Benedict Arnold??

RN1989...you hit the nail right!!!

For all those people who think raising the standard of US nursing situation by limiting mass recruitment of foreign nurses is RACIST then this is for you. Hope you read it before calling US RACIST!!!!

Filipinas desperation to come here...they cheat and are diploma mills indeed
