Stool Question in Children

Published

Ok, I have a 2 yr and on Monday night he had mucous and blood in his very loose stool. He has had loose one for about a week now. I called the doctor of course never got a call back.:angryfire In a matter of 15 mins he had 3 more stools and had gone from looses to runny all with the same stuff in it. I took him to the ER and now is my question. Waht is standard proceedure for something like this? The Dr. came in for about 2mins max and said to get a stool sample since what was in the diaper wasn't enough and I never saw him again. My 2yr pooped in the "Hat" and was proud of himself to say the least then they sent us on our way and I haven't heard a word. I did call yesterday and they said I would know something in 2 to 3 days. So I guess I just hope that he isn't loosing to much blood since it is still happening? Any advice would be great.

Thanks

All I can tell you is that stool should look normal and not like that. I would call your Dr's office again ASAP and ask for the results, as they should have them. If not I would call the hospital and get the results. Then you can go from there..

Good luck!

Ok I just got off the pnone withthe ER nurse who told me tht it is still pending and if he is still having the problem to call his doctor. Ok I'm not one to normally get ill with something like this I understand it takes awhile but my child has blood and mucuos in his poop and can't keep anything on his stomach. No he isn't running a fever and no he isn't throwing up and yes he is acting ok until his tummy hurts and he poops yes he is sleeping more then normal. I just know being his mother that his color isn't right and something is wrong. Oh and they will call only if it comes back positive. Well that is fine and dandy but what are you testing for what would be positive or negative? Of course she isn't sure. You mean you jut sent it off and said see what you can find? Sorry to vent but this is annoying.

I'm mad right along with you!

Please call your doctor's office and INSIST on having your child seen TODAY. If they will not accomodate that, ask for a copy of your child's records and a referral to a pediatrician, family practitioner, or nurse practitioner who WILL. This is ridiculous!

...were any labs done on your son in the ER to check his electrolytes and blood counts? If not, I would insist on him being tested.

As a parent and a patient; If a doc kept me in the dark like this about issues with my children or myself, I would find a new doctor, and quick!

that is assinine for the doctor to do that to you.

The only thing they did was a stool sample and sent us on our way. He has pooped 3 times since 7:00am today. I have a call into the doctor now. I would rather them tell me it is kool aide then act like I'm stupid. If I haven't heard anything by this afternoon I'm taking him to Children's Health in ATL. I owuld rather they keep him and make sure this isn't something major.

I don't have any answers and I'm sorry that you are going through this. I know I worry 1000 times more about my kids than anything else.

I do recommend that once you've figured out this problem and your son feels better that you find a new pediatrician. That is completely unacceptable. Yesterday at 4:30PM I called the peds office saying, "No hurry getting back to me, but daughter has thrush" and the nurse called by 6PM. Your situation seems like a 20 minute return call would be in order.

I'll look for your update and hope that your child is 100% better very soon.

I'm sorry but I need to close this thread as it constitutes "Medical Advice" which is against the TOS.

Bottom line is keep calling the doc till you get answers!
