Hi,

Did you look at their website? In case you don't have it it is www.stonybrook.edu. My godmothers friend graduated from there and she said it is a very good program. She graduated 4 yrs ago and she said when she graduated she started working at Mount Siani Hospital in NYC and made $60,000 to start. She works in the ER now. I believe they have two tracks, and accelerated program for people who have their degree already and the regular BSN track. I believe you need a 2.5 GPA for the regular track. That is what I read last online and BLS certification, 3 letters of recommendations and the usual pre reqs, A & P I and II, Microbiology, Chem I and II or a biology course, stats and the liberal arts Psychology, Sociology etc...

I was going to apply there for the second degree program but it is too far for me to travel to. I live in NYC but mapquest said it would take me 1 hr and 45 min to get there by car. But everyone who has heard of the school and has attended said it was very good. I hope this helps.

I graduated from this great institution for psychology and would have applied for the accelerated BSN program if it was not for the distance. I have a friend who is in the program and she loves it, even though it is a lot of work and dedication. I'm not sure about the progam not being open for the next couple of semesters, but I would say call the Health Sciences department and find out. If your willing to live on campus or near by I say go for it. They are plenty of things in the area (mall, restaurants, bars, supermarkets) and the LIRR in on campus.

I'm graduating this May from Nassau community college and will continue on at Stonybrook for my BSN via the online program. If you want information or to get a good feel for the nursing program-- there is an information session held every friday afternoon at the school of nursing. The online RN-BSN program is perfect for me because it is inexpensive and allows me to work full time as a new grad and still continue my education at the rate I desire. Good luck in whatever you decide upon.

Hiya. I used to be employed at SUNY Stony Brook. The mileage is about 60-65 from Manhattan. You could also take the LIRR from Penn Station which goes right to the Stony Brook Station then walk across the tracks to the campus directly.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

By train it is a 2 hour ride and by car it it 1 hour with no traffic and 1.5 hours with traffic. Commuting is hard, I know b/c I did it my senior year. Maybe you should look into staying near campus or on campus.

Hi,

That is good you sent out your application. I knew that for the accelerated track it was closed because the date for the application was Nov. or Dec. of last year. But for the Regular track, they were still accepting applications for Fall 05 for regular track which is 5 semesters long. The A & P will transfer from the CUNY school as long as it is not longer than 5 or 8 yrs old, I believe that is what the rep told me. But to let you know, only if you are applying to their medical school will you only need calculus. The highest level of math you need is Statistics. I am sorry I don't know anything about their dormitories. I heard it was nice from a friend of mine, but that is all I know.

I hope this helps. :)

that is why i feel people should know what they are talking about before they tell a student some misguided information. you never know, hearing that you need calculus could have disuaded you from applying to the school. people do not want to do any unnecessary pre reqs if they don't have to. if you are going to do calculus like i said, you mind as well apply to med school lol!!! :)
