Stonybrook University Hospital vs Good Samaritan Hospital

Specialties Ob/Gyn

Hi y'all. I got offered a position in Labor and Delivery at both Stonybrook university Hospital and Good Samaritan Hospital. SBUH is a trauma level I and sees all types of deliveries. They require every other weekend and two call shifts a month. GSH is trauma level II with no on-call shifts and requires one weekend a month. I know Stonybrook is beautiful and has a better reputation, but I am not sure I want to deal with that trauma level. I took a year off of LnD because I was stressed out with the new house and no family support around. On the other hand GSH sees less deliveries a year and will give me more time with my son. I wish GSH wasn't so outdated though. I go back and fourth on which to choose. Anyone have experience with these hospitals?

You would be better off posting this in the state-specific forum.

Specializes in Pediatrics, Critical Care.

I've heard horror stories from my friends who work at GSH, and everyone I know at Stonybook LOVES it. And from what I've heard, all of the very high risk pregnancies will usually deliver in a city hospital like Mt Sinai.

L&D nurse who delivered my son at Stony Brook and had a great experience. You need to feel proud of the team you're part of.

What kind of horror stories?

I was just wondering which offer you ended up choosing, and if it was SBUH I had a few unit specific questions!
