Hi Everyone
Has anyone apply for the FNP program Stony Brook? Is anyone get interview?

It was an unofficial acceptance. It said that they had finished reviewing applications and we would get the official acceptance from SBU in early Spring. I feel like they had less applicants than the other programs though. As far as I know PNP was the only one that extended their deadline to December 15.
I applied to FNP too and never heard about an interview for the program.

has anyone else heard?
Hi! Congrats! I unfortunately did not even receive an interview. Definitely heartbroken because I wanted it so bad. I'll just have to try again next year.
Do you mind me asking what your experience level is/what departments & GPA? I want to compare my own application to see where I can improve.

Please don’t be discouraged! I thought about grad school a few years ago and was told at an info seminar that it was unlikely that I’d get in then. I was too discouraged to apply that year but I’ve been working hard to beef up my resume as much as possible.
My undergrad GPA is a 2.5 (yikes), but that was in another degree. My nursing GPA was a 3.7, and my cumulative was a 3.2 overall. So it wasn’t my GPA!
I have 9 years of experience, and 8 of them are in peds (7 in PICU and 2 in hem onc).
Focus on making your resume stand out. I starting writing abstracts for conferences a few years ago, and I’ve done a few podium presentations and lots of posters, and I’ve had a few articles published in journals (honestly it’s not hard to get accepted to conferences and they’re all on zoom now so you don’t have to worry about traveling). Teaching clinicals definitely looks good - and lots of colleges are desperate for good clinical instructors! I called a few colleges four years ago and found a position easily. I’ve also heard about people who volunteer for different organizations like Summer camps for disabled children if teaching isn’t your thing. If you’re not PALS certified definitely get that! And getting a certification in your specialty will also help. The admissions board wants to see that you’re pushing yourself as far as you can in your current role, and that you’re ready for the next step.
Then make sure you get solid letters of recommendation and write a great essay. I think I had ten people read mine before I submitted it.
You can totally do it! You just need to find the weaknesses in your application and balance them with strong work in other areas. I knew my GPA was on the low end for applicants so I tried to highlight all the other things I’ve done to prove that I was taking this seriously.
Also - apply to other schools! Molloy College and SUNY Downstate are still open, and I bet others are too. Go for FNP too because you can work in pediatrics with an FNP if that’s your goal.
Good luck!

I had my interview about a week after the deadline. They didn't say how long they were doing interviews for. However they did say to expect an answer by Feb. I do know they had a loT of applicants though.
