Hey all! Just wanted to lend my support to anyone else who is applying to SB next summer! It's a grueling process :-))
With regards to a question posted a couple pages back about hospital experience:I'm a classmate of Paco's, and I came into this program with absolutely no hospital experience. I think the only thing I had was about 10 hours of shadowing a physician assistant (another career I was looking into). So I wouldn't worry too much about experience. A lot of our classmates this year are coming from completely unrelated careers (teachers, business, even an actor). So don't worry too much about that!
Paco - I was curious to see if you were still posting on here and ended up reliving all the stress from applying.
Good to see you still helping everyone out! (And I'm assuming you can figure out who this is based on my username...ya know, of your favorite clinical buddies.
)
I SURE DID!! One of my favorite clinical buddies indeed! Glad to see you're taking a break from pharm & path (albeit a SMALL one I assume) to come on here and help out with info! Don't let the spring go by without us going out for a drink or two (or 3 ...). Your roomie invited me last night but I could not go due to prior dinner plans. She graciously accepted my raincheck request!
132 days until graduation :)
Hi Dollface! Coming into this program, I had just completed a BS in biology, so I suppose I am one of the more "science oriented" students in the program (but there is a lot of variety, like I said before). I originally had thought about going to med school, so I had actually already completed a lot of the prereqs for the program. Of course I changed my mind and went the nursing route instead, which I think was a great choice. :) (Wait till you all see how little time the doctors in the hospitals have! They are on call constantly!) I ended up taking Anatomy and Physiology I and II at a community college over the summer before applying. I applied to Stony Brook and a handful of other places, and was lucky enough to be accepted. :)
If you have any specific questions let me know and I'll do my best to answer, although I'm sure Paco has done a great job covering everything.
And Kay: We technically graduate in May, but I know that we still have something in June, so it does run a full year. Paco, do you know exactly how the schedule works? I think we take a community nursing class or something that doesn't finish until then. It's a little odd, but if you are accepted you should plan on being here a full year. The administration is a bit of a mess, so I'm still figuring out the scheduling myself (they tell us things at the absolute last minute).

I just yesterday emailed someone from the class of 2011 to ask how Community Health works schedule-wise. All I know is that it starts after graduation and runs through June, it's our last class (the 2-year BSN class however took this last spring so they ARE done at graduation). It's 6 credits so I assume it's lecture/clinical or maybe it's just clinical? Not sure. So yes, even though we walk on May 18, we are not officially done until June 30 which is about a year after we started. That's the same week the new ABSN class will be @ orientation.
Biancca,
I applied to both the 1 and 2 year programs. I had read somewhere on here (not sure if it was in this thread or Paco's original thread from last year) that the decisions for the 2 year come a while after the 1 year ones. I think I heard that they come more towards April.
Today I'm finishing up the Nassau CC, Farmingdale and Molloy applications and sending them in, but my heart is with Stony Brook! Where else did anyone apply if any??
