STNA Info/ Rules/ Grandfather Law

:balloons:hello, i am very new at this so i hope i get this right. i have been a home health care aid for over 2 years now, and recently we were told that we have to be state tested by jan1,2008 in order to keep our job. i have heard there is a "grandfather rule" & that i would be protected by this. does any one know of such rule??? i have one client i take care of and have been for years and when i was hired in where i work at i brought my client with me they didnt assign him to me.i searched the internet for hours but couldn't find anything in this field concerning grandfather rule.i also have been trying to locate training centers in the dayton, ohio area that i can get help with the payment. can any one help me out? been working on this situation for months now. thanks!!

Shame on you for living in Dayton and being a Chicago Bears fan! I'm from Dayton.

I have searched the Ohio Department of Health website for a listing of the providers of STNA training and testing and could not find a list on the internet. You are going to have to call or write to the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry to get this information. Since I lived and worked in LTC in Dayton I KNOW there are a number of places in the Dayton area where you can test for your STNA.

Hi. I''m taking the STNA course right now. The answer to your question is, you need to work 7.5 hours in a nursing home every 2 years to keep current on the Ohio State registry. My teacher is a nurse, and she works at the Health Dept. in Bryan. Maybe you could call up there and ask them to make sure we're talking about the same thing, and what to do about it. The receptionist probably won't know what to say, so try calling on Thurs. and asking if there's a nurse there that would help you out with your question. Maybe youhave to retake the test, but not the class, but I really don't think you have to either one! Maybe you have to do something likke when you renew a driver's license or a soc. card, not sure. Definitely try that call, though. Sorry I couldn't help more, and I have no idea if they calll that a Grandfather clause.

I think most Red Cross offices offer STNA training, not sure if they charge or not. Might be one in Dayton.
