STLCC Forest Park - Starting Jan '09

U.S.A. Missouri

Published

Woohoo! Got my admission letter and dropped it off today at the office!! I'm very excited and just a little scared of it all. Anyone else out there starting this January? I can't wait!

They give u a flyer at the orientation with all the info

We had our orientation Thursday and we got the flyer - I'm signing up on Monday for the "Prep for Success" 2-day workshop. It sounds like a smart thing to do. Btw, orientation was great: Cheryl Swallow, the RN who coordinates the whole program at Forest Park, did most of the 2-hour presentation and she was wonderful. Enthusiastic, intelligent, full of energy and lots of advice... what a dynamo! I left full of positive impressions and expectations. Lots of books to buy too... I'm gonna see if I can improve on the bookstore prices by buying online. Here are the books we need, in case anyone wants to sell. Any comments, suggestions, etc are welcome too! (They estimated we'll be spending approx. $500 this semester on books):

Potter (2009 7th Ed) Fundamentals of Nursing

Wilson (2009) Prentice Hall Nurse's Drug Guide

or

Walters (2009) Nursing 2009 Drug Handbook

Karch (2008) Focus on Nursing Pharmacology

Morris (2006 4th Ed) Calculate with Confidence

Anderson (2005 6th Ed) Mosby's Medical, Nursing & Allied Health Dictionary

or

Taber's Cyclopedic Medical Dictionary (2005 20th Ed)

I am a third semester student at forest Park and I love it. I had Mrs. Swallow as my clincal instructor and I learned so much. I am gald to hear you are taking advantage of the workshop, it really helps with time management and test taking.I hope to see you at forest Park good luck:typing Leesa

Did anybody get a book list for Meramec? I never got one. :( I too want to get a head and buy books online.

Glad you had a great orientation! Cheryl Swallow is a definite plus to the program at Forest Park. She has an "open door" policy(literally...office door open!)and is always available with suggestions on how to be sucessful in this program. I am so glad I decided to go to Forest Park! Wish me luck...fourth semester finals are tomorrow!!!

slhudd(& anyone else that may be interested)

The Scholarshop Foundation of St. Louis(they run 2 thrift stores in the St. Louis area)gives out interest free loans, grants and low interest loans to nursing students. I believe they start taking applications for the next academic year in either December or January...I'll try to find a link and post it. No one I know of at Forest Park(students)knew about this resource when I mentioned it...maybe financial aid isnt aware. Will try to find a link.

Okay went googling, so here is the link:

OMG, good luck!! I'm sure you'll do well, and thanks for your support.

Just a brief update...I PASSED THE FINAL AND NRSG 205!! Now all I have left to do for fourth semester is my 96 hour preceptorship(working one on one with a nurse)and the HESI exam...then pinning on the 17th of December!!! Getting closer day by day!!! Thanks everyone for your support!

luvs2readlots,

congrats:bowingpur I was wondering if you could remember Breeds cancer test last semester? I took her GI test and bombed it. I went from a 84 average to 79 and now I am freaking out. Can you give me any info on it please. And also any info on the final. Alot of my fellow students are not doing that great this semester. I'm not sure what my problem was in regards to the test, failing to read the questions right, they were so many multiple step questions. I really like Mrs Breed but heck. Thanks for any advise and again congrats Leesa:typing

Woohoo!! That's great - congratulations l2rl, and enjoy your preceptorship. You're so close to being finished! (or maybe I should say, to beginning... :)) I'm jealous.
