can anyone give me info about any of the following areas: Brownsville, McAllen, Beaumont, Port Arthur, Corpus Christi, Abeline, or Killen? I think the theme is "Ocean", although I think my heart is set on San Antonio. I will be working in a Fresenius dialysis center, so the hospitals are not an issue for me. Thanks again for all the feedback. Much appreciated

I'm so glad "God" posted. This is exactly what we've been talking about. Oh the valley is fine. All those bad things, don't mind them, it's "just the valley way!" And to quote "God", "it cant be any worst than chicago." Emphasis mine on the poor grammar/spelling. God also said, "maybe that's your problem. your bigoted feelings have skewed your comments on this board. what's wrong with working with flips?" Emphasis mine on how God tries to accuse Bortaz of being a bigot yet uses the term flips in the very next sentence. Nice. Thanks. You just proved our point entirely.

There is a reason why only a couple of people come to the defense of the valley while the majority of every one else tells you to stay away. If are you interested, then by all means check it out. But absolutely do not take a job down there until you have spent some time down there. I think you will find the majority of "sour grapes" happen to be the ones speaking the truth.

Just my 2 cents.

seriously? because im the one complaining about working with asians and hispanics? seriously?

Emphasis mine on the poor grammar/spelling.

before you go being a grammar nazi, you might want to proofread your own posts.

I'm am so mad about the comment about filipinos!!! I resent what Bortazin wrote. I vouch for God1. First of all, if you do not like the valley, for what ever reason, get the hell out! Good Riddance! There is nothing wrong with working with asians unless it offends you that they are smarter than you!!! This forum should be a place of constructive comments not bigoted comments especially probably from an OLD disgruntled GUY, in nursing school bec. he failed in his other career choices, who hates asians and mexicans. First of all, being from a big city in NJ, this place is heavenly. Traffic jam is unheard of around here. If anybody is interested to actually know how living in the valley is, PM me because it is just frustrating to argue to an ignorant person like Bortazin.

My comments regarding Filipino nurses had nothing derogatory against the race of the nurses, but was rather a description of the work environment. If you can deny that a large portion of the nurses in the valley are of foreign descent , have at it.

I'm not responsible for the things that you allow to offend you. I described the hospitals, you chose to be offended. You're welcome to your offense.

I even managed to complete this post without calling you ignorant, being condescending to your age or intelligence, or making assumptions about your previous careers and why you left NJ. Isn't that amazing?

Or you can just read about it on CNN. You can start with this CNN story:

http://www.cnn.com/2009/WORLD/americas/02/18/mexico.drug.violence/index.html?iref=newssearch

Then you might want to read up on how the threat of possible spill over violence into Texas is significant:

http://www.themonitor.com/articles/violence_23502___article.html/border_plan.html

Then go here to read about how it's only expected to get worse. Here is one quote from the article:

"I think the situation in Mexico is very, very dangerous for everyone, including the United States," he said. "The situation hasn't yet registered in the mindset of Americans, but it will, especially when Americans become the target.

"And it's not just handguns. Drug traffickers used a bazooka in Tuesday's shootout with federal police and army soldiers in Reynosa, Mexico, across the border from McAllen, Texas."

Nice.

Reynosa is near mcallen; that is true. I just think it's just exaggeration near paranoia (sp?) to think that what ever happens in Reynosa will happen in McAllen. It does not. If McAllen is considered the center for the lower Rio Grande, i think its safe to assume to compare a neighboring city far away from the border. Therefore, lets take San Antonio vs. McAllen, and take it as for to compare the National crime rates. (I checked the data at areaconnect.com; this site is reliable in my opinion).

Crime Reports (2006; its the only one they have showing and pretty much will be roughly the same stats for 2007-2008)

These are crimes per 100,000 people

My point of my rant, just my 2 cents, becareful of hearsays!

My point is,eventhough McAllen is close in proximity of these drug war, i.e. just across the border, it does not reflect entirely as the city because another city, San Antonio particularly, is much much much more violent than McAllen. becareful of hearsays!

p.s.

I apologize about the number if i did not portray it well, it has little formatting abilities :D
