Still on orientation....need a letter of recommendation

Nursing Students SRNA

I transferred from the NICU to the CVICU this past summer in order to get adult ICU experience for CRNA school. I need a LOR from my current manager but I am somewhat hesitant to ask her for one, being that I am still on orientation. Any advice on how I can go about this??

Thanks 😀

Update: off orientation. Asked my manager for a LOR for next year admissions cycle and she won't write one. Feels I haven't been there long enough, (have been there 18 months so far) stated she would be willing to write one near the end of the year. Just feel defeated bc by that time applications for 2017 start will be over with. My charge nurse is more than willing to write a letter but the school I am interested in wants one from a nurse manager and my charge nurse. Has anyone else been in this type of situation. What did you do?

Specializes in ICU.

Definitely apply to a school where you can just get an LOR from the charge nurse. If you insist on this school, then you accept the wait that comes along with it.

Why don't you just get your NICU nurse manager to write a? I am in a similar situation as you but long story short I called the two schools I am applying to and they said they preferred a recommendation from my last nurse manager since I've only been at my current job 4 months.

My NICU nurse did write me a recommendation letter but then they informed me they needed one from my current nurse manager :/

I would call the school back and just be honest with them that she doesn't feel comfortable writing you a recommendation but if I still want something ask if one from your charge nurse would be sufficient. One school I called to ask about this said they couldn't imagine that anyone could write a decent recommendation after a few months so that's why they only wanted one from the last manager and i agree with them...

They still want something *

Yeah. I'm gonna call them. Thank you for your advice. :)

Was the school Pitt?

No. School in Albany.

Did you have a similar issue at Pitt?

Yes, but I was accepted, and then they asked for it. I had just gotten to a new ICU too. Was awkward.

Did your new manager write one?
