Nurses Relations

We all know this old childhood rhyme. And we also know that words and names CAN hurt us. What's your story? Have you been bullied or belittled? What did you do about it?

I always like the Ghandi story, where a man asked what he should do when insulted (referring to Ghandi's nonviolence responses). Ghandiji thought for a moment, and then quietly asked if the man was given a gift, wrapped up in a box, but refused it, to whom did the gift belong? The man replied, why to the one who is giving it. Ghandiji replied, it is the same with the insult.

Same here. I am surprised at how many nurses I work with smoke, myself included. A lot of the reason I don't quit smoking is that smoke break gets me the heck away from work for at least a few minutes. Sure we have a break room inside, but every time I have tried to just go in there, I am interrupted by somebody, or hear an overhead page for a phone call. So there goes any meaningful break. Outside I am not bothered.
