Are there special stethoscopes for hard of hearing? I have recently gotten back into nursing and at about the same time I found that I have a hearing loss in my right ear for which I wear a digital aid.
Thanks for any info or guidance.

I would hope the hearing aid would help pull in the sound closest to me, so I could push out the background stuff. Drives me nuts how it is so muddled. Perhaps it is the type of hearing loss one has. I don't know that much about hearing loss, other than I knew it would happen, as it is familial. Lucky I can still hear fairly well with a stethoscope.I work psych now and find I can't hear these folks as well as I could the patients in L&D. Go figure.
I went in today and got my adjustment. It was perfect!!!! I could not only hear soft and low sounds, but the noise is normal!!!! It is a Siemens in the canal ear, basic digital. I had been going to this upstart that brags she has a Masters in this and then this other person did it perfectly. To know how perfectly, I am sitting at my computer with the kitchen behind me where the plumbers are are drilling, soldering, noise unbelieveable and is not bothering me at at all. Just like I have normal hearing.
Back to the stethoscope, I went on line where I looked up Phillips, Littman and some of what Siri had suggested. There is so much info on the internet. I was looking at this E-scope or something like this. They had a site that touted the "oldest EMT in Texas" using it. They did not give his age (probably 35 or 40) but just that he was the oldest EMT in Texas using it. Anyway, when I was talking to the person at the dealer, she gave me a number to call the Department of Rehabilitation and will be mailing me some other information about the stethescopes and I guess something about disabilites with hearing loss.
I am just so happy. I will let you know all of what goes on when I get all the other info.
Thank you once again for your interest in helping me. This is a great group.

all the mumblers with their heads in their lap. These are 50% of my patients and the other 50% are the yellers.

At least now if you don't understand the mumblers, you'll know it won't be because of you! I am happy for you and just a wee bit envious. :balloons: At least I know there is hope for me when I can afford it!

After I went to my HOH dispenser, I was referred to the Department of Rehabilitation. I don't know what state you live in but I live in CA and I was told if your income was over $2500 a month, you would only pay a small percentage of the cost above the amount of the cost of a stethoscope for HOH. I wonder if I had known this before, if I would have had to pay the $1400 for the base, l digital hearing aid. I hope someone of you will be able to utilize this information.
Requirements are geared to whether you need this assistance to continue with your job. Well, what could be truer than a nurse needing assistance with HOH to keep her job. Hope it helps someone.
