I have seen them used at the hospital I will be working out in a few weeks. If you google Safe Seal diaphragm covers you will find them. I think they are even on ebay.

I use them, becuase they are what the diaphragm on my stethoscope is. It doesn't have the hard, traditional diaprhagm. I love using them. Since I'm in nursing school, and only come in contact with 1-2 patients a week, I usually change it about once every 2-3 weeks, depending on the patients I have. The covers are real neat.... they have antimicrobial stuff impregnated in them that is supposed to kill 99.9% of MRSA after 24 hours. After reading the back of one of them, I guess if you use them, you're suppposed to remove the hard diaphragm from your stethoscope before using them too. Their website is http://www.SafeSEALdiaphragm.com and I know you can buy smaller quantities on there.... I think they are about $1 each. Could you let me know if you find them cheaper anywhere else???

I just figured out that you can't actually buy them from the safeSeal website, but you can get a sample from there. If you google SafeSeal, a whole bunch of sites come up that you can buy them from.

Cross contamination with stethoscopes is a potential problem, just liek handwashing. There are several products available such as SafeSeal but there is also a new product called StetPro. Check out the web site http://www.stetpro.com. Very easy to use & currently in use in the UK.

BTW, I received some free SafeSeal samples in the mail the other day. Can't wait to try them out.

I got my free samples in the mail and tried them out. I got a funky reading when I took my own BP. 140/00 One of the nurses I work with offered to call the funeral home of my choice. Did you have similar results?

Not really sure, haven't tried them out yet, I figured I'd change over to them when I got some more blood on my stethoscope, but after hearing that I'm not so sure. Not really brave enough to disassemble my stethoscope for some deep down fear that it'll never quite work the same again.

So you're hypertensive, yet hypotensive at the same time? How does that work? :confused:

Hi Chad,

I have a stethoscope by DRG that only uses the Safe Seal Diaphragm's as the diaphragm.... I have no hard diaphragm on my stethoscope. I can take BP's and get normal results with is... Everything I hear with my stethoscope, my fellow nursing students and instructors hear with their Littman's. Maybe the problem is because you still have the hard diaphragm in, or you didn't press hard enough?? Good Luck working with them!!

I wish I knew how I was hypotensive, the hypertensive unfortunately I can understand totally. I have been suffering from hypertension for the last 3-5 months. I am hoping that once I move into the dorm and stop living with two chain smokers my :redbeathe will calm down. Crossing my fingers! No I read the constructions (Yes I know I said constructions) to it and took the hard diaphragm out. I have a dual head sprague type stethoscope. I have actually lost the hard diaphragm. I think I have the replacement in my closet. I think I will go look for it now, try the safeseals one more time and trade it out.
