STCC 2010?

U.S.A. Massachusetts

Hello Everyone: I am new to this site and was wondering if anyone on here has any advice on being accepted into the STCC Nursing Program. I will be applying to the program for the fall of 2010. I am taking the pre-reqs now, but have a question regarding the HESI. Does the exam cover chemistry and physics in addition to A&P, Bio, Math, and English? I have the exam book and have been studying but wanted to make sure I study the correct subjects. Any advice would be great! Thank you.

No, I don't think you can retake those. I know there is a page dedicated to it off of STCC's Nursing page, but I don't know how much information on it is helpful to you.

Thanks, I actually called STCC and found out the stuff I needed. I'm about 1/3 of the way done with the course (I wanted to finish before the summer sessions start). During the summer I'll be working 9-5 and going to school 5:30-9:30! Yikes. On another note, you must be getting exited about starting the program in the fall. That's so great!

Just one note I would like to add about the "Math For Meds" that you would take at STCC. The online program isn't that good, there is actually away you can get everyone of the tests correct and cheat your way through it. Not good if you plan on being a nurse, and it will come back and bite you in the end when you have to do tests with calculations. After the coorifice is completed, I would recommend getting a math for meds book and continually go over it. Know these calculations. It comes to some very easy, and they state it is easy, but for the ones who are not math maticians need to work on it. Eventually, after going over it, you will get it.:yeah:

I actually had someone tell me that they cheated their way through the course, and I was appalled.. I bet she will be looking for short cuts the whole way through nursing school and probably once she has a job as an RN too.. and I certainly wouldn't want a nurse like that!

A note on both the posts: I would never cheat on an online course and I can't believe someone would want to cheat their way through that calculations course or any other course for that matter. These are the types of calculations you need to know to be a nurse. Why would you not want to know them? I agree with you Bananimal, it is apalling. I am taking Microbiology and there is a girl in my class that has no interest in the subject, skips lecture and lab but wants to go to nursing school. She even had the audacity to ask me to borrow my lab book to copy an exercise she had missed. I just don't understand that kind of mentality. If you want to be a nurse, you should take an interest in these subjects and excel at them. I did well in the Med. Calc. course and doing well in my other course work too. I will be taking the HESI in a few months and applying in the spring, I can't wait! :lol2:

I had to write that about the med calc online coorifice, and I hope STCC lists another program other then that one to make it more challenging with no loop holes for cheaters. The program, in my opinion..wasn't a good program at all. All I can say, the ones that DID cheat their way through this online coorifice WILL have to prove themselves once inside the nursing program. :nono: When they are the ones that have to do the work all by themselves, their true colors will show. :uhoh21: Was it worth it? Congrats to all who did make it to the nursing program! :yeah:I will be attending this fall semester. I am sure it will be one heck of a ride, and I'm climbing aboard. Hope to see you there.:lol2:

Exactly! Well we can only hope the nursing school will make or break those people. So they either change their ways and become great nurses, or fail and try something else-- so they never end up as a BAD nurse. Yuck (:

Good luck with the HESI!!

I think you will find in nursing it is best not to judge people or assume anything.

I am certainly not condoning cheating but I don't think this would be the first time someone used their book during an online course exam...which is what I assume someone did since that is really the only way you can "cheat" in an online course. I am not saying this is right or wrong but it happens and being judgemental gets you nowhere. Best to not worry about what other people do and worry about yourself. There are a million things out there that could cause a person to say "I wouldn't want them as my nurse" ...

Chances are you have done/will do at least of those things.

Cheating is not allowed.. and surely grounds for some sort of punishment. She should have kept it to herself, but by verbalizing it to everyone in our English class as if she were proud of it-- she's clearly setting herself up to be judged, and maybe disciplined by the college if the wrong person were to hear this...

I do agree with you, however, that I shouldn't have jumped to conclusions or assumed that she will end up a "bad" nurse because she cheated her way through one course.. That was wrong of me, and really far fetched. The whole cheating thing was actually the ONLY thing I heard her say all semester.. So I have no other impression of her aside from her cheating. It may have come off that I hope she fails, but I really do hope she succeeds. She's already at a disadvantage going into the program now with probably very minimal knowledge of all things dosage calculations.. She's going to have to work hard to teach it to herself now on top of all the other work we have.

However, its the emotional response to a statement that is going to happen no matter what-- You hear "I cheated my way through the course!" and you're clearly going to think "Wow, awful.." not "Oh, I don't care." It's certainly something that is hard to ignore, especially if you worked really hard to teach yourself all the information and got yourself good grades-- while other people cheated their way through.

The topic here was the STCC Med Calculations coorifice...there is no book for this coorifice. There is a loop hole in the system itself. The people that have taken the coorifice probably know what I am referring too. We know online coorifices allow u to use your books and the professors know you are too. So books are NOT the only way to cheat. This is a system glitch. If you know what that glitch is, it will allow you to literally get hundreds on all ur tests. I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, openmindedness. I think the last reply hit the nail on the head....and your right...who cares really?

IHey, I didn't mean to come across as overly harsh, just trying to help you out :wink2:. It is unfortunate that this person announced to the class that she cheated. You are so very right that when your only impression of a person is a negative one it is really really hard to think anything different. In nursing 102 they really emphasize never assuming and not being judgemental. I think my real objective should have been to say to be careful what you write on these forums ...that girl from your english class might be an all nurses member stumble on a thread for stcc 2010 and read your post...with some deductive reasoning she might be able to figure out who you are. Maybe you wouldn't care (cause what you said was true) or maybe she wouldnt care (cause she is truely proud or doesnt care that she cheated) but the program is stressful enough, I was trying to spare you from some more. Sorry that I came across the wrong way and didn't get my point across very well. I think I need to work less and sleep more! Good luck in school tomorrow!

I took that online course, I guess I missed out on whatever that loop hole was! I heard of people using the online notes to remember formulas and stuff like that, I thought that is how a person would have "cheated". The class was horrible though in my opinion. The school knows it but apparently they had to reduce the number of prereq's for some reason or another and decided getting rid of the med calc class and adding this online one was the easiest way. The exams only have 5 math questions on them so not knowing med calc wont really make or break you in the program but I do agree it is good to know it for nursing in general. The weird thing is that many nurses I talk to say you dont use math really in the field. I am sure that depends on what type of place you work though and if they have computers and manual IV's. I am glad I brushed up on the med calc with a book because I did not get much out of that class.
