Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone else got into STCC nursing school for fall of 2018. I am starting the thread as I have searched it here multiple times! Hope to hear from some other fellow students for this fall! Excited and nervous
Exactly what she said! I also plan on handing in my CPR card (because I have one) and I scheduled my TB test for the first week of May just to make sure I don't forget cause it has to be done twice. I am also a super planner so I am probably a little ahead on the CPR card and test. (I have kids so I have lots of lists to make sure I don't forget things)
I will be the cool kid with a paper planner as well as my phone. I like to be able to see things on paper in front of me.
Hi! I remember seeing posts from you when i was searching prior to applying to the program! Is this your second semester? Are there any tips or key things to focus on regarding the program? How was first semester for you? How has the transition been from first to second semester? How is the faculty? I have thoughts of drill sergeants lol. Do you work? How have you been to balance that out if you do? How was the schedule for first semester and was it easy to get used to? Sorry so many questions. I am just happy to see someone who is currently in the program and enjoying it AND I am struggling waiting for orientation to ask all of this!
Yes this is my second semester. At the summer workshop they'll give you a list of reading to do for the first test, I would do that sometime in august. Also get the math book the recommend and learn dimensional analysis, it will save you in 2nd semester. Other people learned the other ways but then had a hard time with the math this semester. We have a med calc test every semester and you have 3 tries to get a 90 or better on it (isn't as bad as it seems). First semester was a roller coaster of emotions lol. There were deff days I wanted to quit and second guessed my decision to start nursing school (still are some of those days) and it was a totally new experience since it really isn't like any other college courses but so worth it. The transition as a bit different going from 1st to 2nd since now our tests seem to be more nursing based from the first one. For studying I did all my reading and each powerpoint has learning objectives so what I did was write out the answers from those and studied those and studied the powerpoints. Print out your powerpoints! First couple units I didn't and was just writing notes out on lined paper but started printing out the powerpoints and it is a total life saver because now im not writing everything on the slide and what the professor was saying. The professors are wonderful. I absolutely love them and feel that they are actually interested in us succeeding. They also give hints on what to focus on for tests! I do work in afterschool childcare, I work 14 hours a week, others work more than I do but I work t-f 230-6. I cant work Mondays since clinical is scheduled from 1-5. How I balance work and studying is that I get to school the days I have class (this semester is W-T-F from 10-12 all days, lab is Wednesday) between 730 and 8 so that I can do school work there and study there before class, I then go to class and then stay after until 2 when I have to leave to work. After work I then make myself do about 1 hr of studying at least. This is most days, some days I need some personal time and do no studying lol. For the first semester my schedule looked like this; M= clinical 10-2 as prep day (get info about my patients and their meds to look up that night) T= clinical 645-1145 W= lab 8-950 T&F= lecture 1010-1205. It deff took some time to get used too, especially clinical paperwork. After a couple weeks went by I got the hang of it. Sorry this is super long lol I was trying to answer your questions and make sure it was good info! If you have any more questions just ask!! Nursing school will fly by, I cant believe that Im almost done with my first year! I also volunteered to help at orientation and the summer success course!
Hi,
can I chose days and time for clinical and lab in the first semester?
I have a child enrolled in daycare on M, W, F from 9-12.30. this schedule will work for my Thursday and Friday lecture time since it starts from 10.10. till 12.05 but I don't know about clinical and lab. can I have clinical on Monday afternoon or Tuesday and lab on Thursday before the lecture. And how many time do you have clinical and lab during a week? Thank you for taking your time to answer my questions.
You'll find out you schedule in June when you pick your lab after the workshop (they'll tell you more info on picking classes) , that is the only thing you can pick. For clinical you can pick your preference but ultimately it comes down to where they assign you, some students had one day clinicals, others (like me had 2 day) they try to give you as much notice about clinicals as they can, it does take time for them to assign them. They do do a night clinical but there are no labs o thursday or friday for freshman (that's when we have lab)

I know right!! I have scrolled through so many but none of them seem recent. Since accepting has anyone gotten a letter about the detail to the orientation in May? I am going crazy waiting for it to come in the mail. Thankfully I have already handed in everything that we need for that date.
