  1. The test is just to see where you stand i guess you could say. There isnt really a way to prep for it and noone at my orientation did good on it. It doesn't count towards anything. We will be selling Coffee Koozies and tumblers that both say STCC nursing on it, and possible t-shirts!
  2. BB83, I wouldn't necessarily call it "busy work" but it is most definitely a lot of work. Your grade is basically 4 tests (20%) 1 paper (10%) and kaplan (10%) but lab and clinical fall under your lecture class but the work you do for it doesn't count towards your grade. It was most definitely beneficial I think. Clinical and lab are either a pass or fail. guru123, parking is the same, i would most definitely try to get lot 2 or 1 since they are the closest, i got lot 4 and i always park on pearl st
  3. You'll find out you schedule in June when you pick your lab after the workshop (they'll tell you more info on picking classes) , that is the only thing you can pick. For clinical you can pick your preference but ultimately it comes down to where they assign you, some students had one day clinicals, others (like me had 2 day) they try to give you as much notice about clinicals as they can, it does take time for them to assign them. They do do a night clinical but there are no labs o thursday or friday for freshman (that's when we have lab)
  4. Yes this is my second semester. At the summer workshop they'll give you a list of reading to do for the first test, I would do that sometime in august. Also get the math book the recommend and learn dimensional analysis, it will save you in 2nd semester. Other people learned the other ways but then had a hard time with the math this semester. We have a med calc test every semester and you have 3 tries to get a 90 or better on it (isn't as bad as it seems). First semester was a roller coaster of emotions lol. There were deff days I wanted to quit and second guessed my decision to start nursing school (still are some of those days) and it was a totally new experience since it really isn't like any other college courses but so worth it. The transition as a bit different going from 1st to 2nd since now our tests seem to be more nursing based from the first one. For studying I did all my reading and each powerpoint has learning objectives so what I did was write out the answers from those and studied those and studied the powerpoints. Print out your powerpoints! First couple units I didn't and was just writing notes out on lined paper but started printing out the powerpoints and it is a total life saver because now im not writing everything on the slide and what the professor was saying. The professors are wonderful. I absolutely love them and feel that they are actually interested in us succeeding. They also give hints on what to focus on for tests! I do work in afterschool childcare, I work 14 hours a week, others work more than I do but I work t-f 230-6. I cant work Mondays since clinical is scheduled from 1-5. How I balance work and studying is that I get to school the days I have class (this semester is W-T-F from 10-12 all days, lab is Wednesday) between 730 and 8 so that I can do school work there and study there before class, I then go to class and then stay after until 2 when I have to leave to work. After work I then make myself do about 1 hr of studying at least. This is most days, some days I need some personal time and do no studying lol. For the first semester my schedule looked like this; M= clinical 10-2 as prep day (get info about my patients and their meds to look up that night) T= clinical 645-1145 W= lab 8-950 T&F= lecture 1010-1205. It deff took some time to get used too, especially clinical paperwork. After a couple weeks went by I got the hang of it. Sorry this is super long lol I was trying to answer your questions and make sure it was good info! If you have any more questions just ask!! Nursing school will fly by, I cant believe that Im almost done with my first year! I also volunteered to help at orientation and the summer success course!

  11. Organizing for Nursing School | This Nursing Journey found this a couple days ago about organizing and it seemed like a good way! can't wait to start! see you at orientation lol
  12. received my letter today!
  13. College is totally different from high school. In high school I personally didn't care what my grades were and I was "too cool for school" you could say. Starting college was a totally different world than high school. I suggest maybe starting off the first semester with classes besides anatomy and the other science classes that is needed for nursing so that way you can get the hang on college without the pressure of having to do really well in the sciences.
  14. still waiting for my letter unfortunately but i'm in cause webadvisor says moved to student, lol i just feel like it's not official yet cause i haven't gotten the letter í ½í¸‚
