Statistics trouble

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello, I have posted on here before about how I am struggling with statistics an I am sure some of you are annoyed by it, but I really need to talk it out. We just had our second exam and I bombed it and now have a C in this class. This is the worst I have ever done in a class and am quite crushed, especially with the knowledge that this statistics is my last prerequisite for nursing... I don't know what to do and am really down and scared right now. Thank you for listening, your feedback really does help.

I am taking stats right now. math is my worst subject but i made a 96 on my first exam. Do you use the mystatlab or is everything done in paper with the professor? Does he give reviews to know which type of problems will be on the exams?

Are you allowed to use Excel during your exams? Or do you just need formulas? If so, I can email you a list of formulas used for statistics with the explanation of each one and when to use it. If you can use Excel, I can email you the spreadsheet with every formula used and which one it's for.

Everything accept the homework is written, my class is in person, not online=( I wish I had taken it online, I have a feeling I would have done better... We don't use Excel or any other type of software, he doesn't even teach us how to do it on the calculator. For homework we use Webassign. I don't think I studied as well for this exam, so I will definitely fix that. Can one bring a C up to a B? I don't know what I will do if I get a C or lower in this class... All my other prerequisites are solid, I got A's in all of them accept for one B and then there is this class. I handle the homework fine, it is my professors exams that kill me.

He doesn't teach you how to use it on a calculator? What is wrong with teachers these days? The fact that they won't let you use Excel, either...mind boggling. You're going to use resources when you do statistics, so why not learn them.

My class was in person as well, we just had a teacher that taught us on the calculator and excel and thought it was stupid not to use Excel, lol.

You could get to a B if you do well on your next exams. What's so different from the exams to the homework?

The exam questions are structured completely differently and they are much more difficult. I also suffer from pretty bd test anxiety, which was a definite contributing factor.

I am just scared that if I do not do well in this class, that I wont be able to be a nurse, it really bums me out because I have worked so hard for so long just to have one class ruin it...

I did terribly (a D and a C) on my first Stats tests but stuck with it and got an A in the class. I had an in person class but we still used MyStatsLab for homework and quizzes. The software is very time consuming and frustrating, requiring 3-5 hours a week for homework and quizzes, but the repetition really helped me learn the concepts.

Since you don't have the software, devote a lot of time to doing as many problems as possible from your textbook. Look online for practice quizes on the topics you're currently studying.

I'd also ask to meet with the teacher to ask for suggestions to improve your grade so he knows you're trying. And ask him for help learning how to use your calulator. You can also google instructions for using your calculator to solve stats problems.

I borrowed "Statistics for Dummies" from the libarary but it didn't help with my class. The book was mostly theory; the class is mostly formulas.

Stick with it. By the end of the semester I got an A on my last test and even got the extremely difficult extra credit question at the end. It felt amazing to master something that seemed impossible when I first started out!

I have a C in stat right now too (I only have taken 1 test thus far) For me, I don't think I'm putting in the time with the practice problems. Learning to use the calculator is a life saver. UCDavis has a good page for learning the inputs

Same with me! I have a low C. We just had our 2nd exam today. I'm feeling good about it, but there was only 6 problems so each one is worth like 15 points!

My professor basically said in class today that this exam was the hardest one out of all of them, but I am still very unhappy about how I did. I am going to his office hours to go over the exam today. The lowest score in our class for this exam was 35. I need to change up my study habits for sure, but I get the homework, i just wish the exams were more on par with the homework.

I tried stats & eventually dropped it. It was HORRIBLE! It was ALL online! If you needed tutoring, online. We used mystatslab & it helped, to a point, but to this day I still don't understand statistics. It's my last class I have to take before I can apply to BSN programs. I am DREADING it! >.
