Statistics

How was/is your stats class? Would you say it was very difficult? I'm great with basic algebra but I struggle the more advanced areas. Just wondering what to expect next semester.

Seriously, statistics was a cakewalk compared to my college algebra, finite math and calc classes.

It was all just plugging in numbers to equations, I enjoyed it and made an A with little effort.

I am not mathematically gifted either (had to do 3 remedial math courses when I got to college!)

Statistics isn't bad at all! At first it seems complicated, but once you learn what all the symbols mean and how to do the steps, it's pretty simple. The professor you have makes a big difference too, I would suggest going on www.ratemyprofessors.com and reading the reviews. I think you'll do fine!

I didn't enjoy Stats at all. It may have been because I took it over the summer. I didn't enjoy Algebra or Stats. Stats was a little different than Algebra for sure. I think it depends on the person. I thing for sure is I visited the tutors they were a huge help.

Statistics doesn't really have that much algebra, and it was easier than algebra for me. It is a bit boring, but you will be just fine. if you spend some quality time on it, you can easily get an A, regardless of your algebra knowledge. Just put in the work. Anything is possible!

Thank you for your replies, everyone! They were very helpful.

Thanks for this thread, I'm currently registered for Stats Spring 2014 and I am so nervous !!! Math and I are not friends at times. Any helpful study techniques? Will this course take up a lot of my study time , I'm unsure if I should add Micro Biology and Lab .

Like I said before, there isn't too much math there. You can definitely add micro. Divide your studying time, don't fall behind and that's it. There is no reason for any anxiety as long as you don't slack off. Stat is really not that difficult as some people think.

Thanks so much !

I hated stats! I got A's in algebra 1 and 2 but hated calculus. I took my stat class at the community college though and got an A because I had a very helpful professor. I don't think I would have gotten an A if I had taken it at an 4 year school though. I would recommend youtubing for videos. I found a lot of helpful videos that explained it better than it was to me in class.

My stats class ha tons of Math in it. You were lucky to not have any. There were formulas but it was still Math. I just don't want to sugar coat it for the OP. Micro was cool and doable with Stats. Good luck!

I didn't say there is no math, I said, "not that much". Stat is the same everywhere. It's not classic algebra. I took it at university, it was easy for me. I also took calculus, as I like math and I enjoyed it. But as we all know, it is all individual. Some people like art, some people like algebra, some something else. Some think math is horribly hard, some just love math. Getting down your formulas and patterns for stat is important. Once you get that, it all flows later. I just don't think people should dread any class if they put a lot work into it. Anything is doable. Anxiety is useless; it just makes everything much harder. I prefer arming myself with positive energy and confidence.
