Who has taken it? What's it like? Any tips, advice, suggestions? I'm giving the sciences a rest and taking stats and retaking intro to psych (hoping to raise a 3.0 to a 4.0).

What's the skinny?

I took it during a short semester too. Our teacher told us if we knew how to do the examples in every chapter, we'd do fine. I made copies of every example, without the solution - and kept practicing over and over. Result ... A :)

I barely passed this class!!! Reasons: 1) I was taking A&P 1 and Statistics over a summer session. 2) I had to devote most of my time to studying A&P1, so whatever energy and time I had left I did w/ Statistics. The class really was not hard, but my time management skills last year were severely lacking and I wasn't as focused now as I was back then!!

I registered for Math 10 (Elementary statistics) for spring this year but I dropped the course because the teacher was horrible. I'm going to retake it in the fall with a different professor.

I did a little bit of the course work before dropping it and I found it to be incredibly dry and boring stuff. I guess the key is to find a professor who makes the course interesting and is there to help when you need it.

I took online stats so that was probably easier. We worked a lot with Excel, making charts and tables. Most of the formulas could be done by the computer so I didn't do that much calculating. It was more a matter of learning how to interpret the formulas, knowing which ones to apply or which procedures to use.

We had to do an end-term project that involved statistics. I compared grocery prices in three different neighborhoods according to median income. I spent a day trekking around the city going into a few dozen grocery stores to record prices. Oh, and I carried around a 3-week old baby in a Bjorn while I was doing it. but that was fun.

My advice would be just to keep up with it, don't let yourself fall behind because then it is really hard to catch up. Get to know the formulas very well and all the different ways they can be used. The "math" part of it was easy for me, just remembering which formula needs to be used for what situation is hard. If you can remember the correct formula, all ya have to do is just plug the numbers in.

I liked this class. Aside from one or two chapters, I didn't think the material was difficult.
