what do we know about the states that have banned HESI? I know New York is one...any others?

But you can't have it both ways. Either the HESI IS a good predictor of passing the NCLEX, or it's not. If it's not, as you say, then they're not artificially playing with any stats.

Which goes back to my ORIGINAL statement that the ONLY people that claim it's a predictor is the people that SELL the HESI to the schools.

I think what klone is trying to say here, is that if the HESI is not a good predictor for NCLEX success, then those who pass the HESI wouldn't have any greater chance of passing the NCLEX than those who failed the HESI and weren't able to sit for the NCLEX....And if those who passed the HESI were just as likely to fail the NCLEX than those who failed the HESI, then the goal of inflating NCLEX pass rates could not be achieved by requiring students to take the HESI. In order for that goal to be accomplished, there would have to be a legitimate correlation between the two.

However, I agree that if there is no significant correlation, or if the testing criteria of the HESI doesn't strongly correlate with the curriculum, then it's pretty sketchy to require the test as a condition for graduation.
