States with a continual need?

Specialties Travel

I have been debating traveling alot lately and have been trying to determine what states would be good ones to get licenses in so that I could have a pool of work to choose from once I start the traveling gig. I should preface this with I am doing ICU nursing and have done so for the last 4+ years. What has been your experience? Those of you who have been traveling for some time are there certain states with perennial needs? Of those, what are the best paying?

I have noticed California of late has had a lot of openings. Is it like that often?

Also any states to avoid like the plague due to how they treat travel nurses or nurses in general?

Thanks for any tips and help that you offer.

Hi Ned you seem very knowledgeable :) i need some guidance. Have u worked with fastaff?

Nope. Chasing long hours, hard work, and big bucks?

Specializes in ICU, and IR.

Also check out the gypsy nurse facebook group and the gypsy nurse jobs group that will help you alot. Ca always has jobs, AK, NV, Co,...the list goes on. If I were you I would take an assignment somewhere while you work on your Ca liscence as it can take a while. I would avoid faststaff until you have some more travel experience, and beware that the pay listed on thier site includes housing into the hourly pay so your pay will be lower if not taking stipend, I don't like the way they list it, thats why I like the facebook groups for pay packages.
