On pg 31 it says "bleeding is part of the circulation assessment of the ABCD's in an emergent situation. Therefore, if airway and breathing is accounted for, a compound fracture requires assessment before coma scale and a neuro check.
Is this statement saying to assess someone with a compound fracture before assessing someone that may be unconscience/coma? I guess the way its worded is whats confusing me as to what the statement is referring to.
Thanks a bunch!

I'm reading it as when doing an assessment on the same person as opposed to triaging.

that's why you gotta be careful with study guides. who created that study guide anyway?
I will always stick to my Hurst Book, as I call my RN Bible
So CT Pixie you are saying that to look at it as saying to assess a person with a fracture by looking at the fracture first then look at coma scale then do a Neuro check? I guess I may be putting too much into it. LOL

"neuro checks and coma scale" are assessments too .. when you are taking neuro checks&coma scale you are basically assessing the patient - its what kaplan told us.. assessments are like : VS, neuro checks, coma scale, checking urine color, consistency and character, looking at a pt.'s wound etc. are all part of assessments.
That rationale you posted are confusing it is saying that you have to assess first for compound fracture before neuro checks and coma scale but getting neuro checks and coma scale are part of assessment..
