State Skills & Written Exam in a Week. I still have questions..!.

okay so ive been reading up on my nursing aide candidate booklet and in most of the skills it states to remove gloves, wash hands n THEN come back lower the bed into lowest position and give call light. shouldnt i be removing gloves then putting the bed in lowest position and giving the call light and then washing hands? because you cant leave them alone without either one being done.. and if i do wash my hands first, do i put up the siderails so they dont roll out of bed? ive been out of the class for 2 months so im a little rusty =/ also when im making an occupied bed.. when rolling the dirty bottom sheet under the client and then putting the clean one on and rolling it also under client does it go underneath the dirty one or on top? Do you wear gloves when doing an occupied bed change?

this information would be great =) i emailed my instructor, but shes out of the office on vacation during this time so im kinda screwed. any other pointers and helpful information would be great! thanks everybody

A general rule is knock on door, intro, explain why you are there, provide for privacy, wash hands.... then begin steps.. You should always wash your hands when you are done witheverything, that includes giving call light, pull curtain back, remove gloves, then wash your hands. Anytime you have a pt in a bed, and you raise the bed to your comfort level it is always a good idea to have the side rail up on the opp side you are working on so the pt wont fall out the bed. I was taught that you do your skills remove your gloves, then lower bed give call light and wash your hands right before you leave the room. On making the occupied bed you should wear gloves anytime there is a possibility that you will come into contact with body fluids. So seeing as though the bed may be wet you should wear gloves.

about the occupied bed its true but as your changing dirty sheets.. your also touching clean ones at the same time and your wearing the same gloves.. so how does that work? are you suppost to change your gloves after you touch each sheet? that would be like 5 pairs of gloves during one skill.. ahh idk! we never wore gloves when we were changing beds in clinicals..
