Starting TWU Fall 2006?

Published

Just wondering if there are any other nurses out there starting at Texas Wesleyan in Aug '06? I am both excited and scared from what I know will be a tough program! Just knowing somebody before we start classes might help!

Mumbatex,

You are welcome! Let me know if you ever have questions.

Hello-- I'll be attending TWU in the fall 2006.. Just curious to know if there are many/any papers to write? I know the science stuff will be a bear but lengthy research projects i tend to worry about. Silly i know. Thanks in advance for your help.

B.

No i'll be leaving them for the entire 2 1/2 years. We live 2 hours away so hopefully i can commute on weekends when school allows

Just wondering....what do you guys like so much about TWU? I am researching and comparing TCU and TWU.

Ditto that.

I'd like to see a side-by-side comparison of TWU and TCU from others who considered and were accepted to both schools.

THE CLASS OF 2008!! Sounds pretty sweet!! (NOT AS SWEET AS 2007!!):chuckle

Just kidding guys. First off congratulations to all of you and you truly picked the best school to go to. I don't know TCUs program so I can't speak on the quality there. They do have our old program director at TCU but we have what no other school in the country has and that's good ole' DR REINKE. All I can say is study. And when you feel you've studied enough, STUDY SOME MORE!!! Go ahead and get it in your head that you are going to study ALOT. I was never a much of a person who studied alot; it changed quickly. Jenniek, my classmate, will tell you. The benefits are immeasurable though. TWU doesn't train you to pass boards. We train you to be the best. Period. In a year where the board pass rate dropped like a rock this year, we scored in the 97th percentile (national average was 90). Wesleyan is one of only a few schools to put our results on the website. So if you want a side-by-side comparison, ask a TCU student what there results were (and I don't mean that in a mean way) because you need to know. I think their first class just took boards this winter so they should have the results. If anybody has a questions of me or Jenniek, ask us. Its not a problem. And no we're not giving out test questions.:chuckle

1st piece of advice. TAKE ORGANIC CHEM THIS SUMMER. I know they offer you a chem class and you should take it and audit an org chem class. It will help alot and give you more time to study for A&P.

Okay. Looks like the gauntlet has been thrown down by a TWU cheerleader. :chuckle Anybody from TCU going to stand up and defend their school's honor?

Yell leader would probably be more appropriate (like Texas A&M). No gauntlets been thrown. Just stating facts. The only way you can compare two schools is A) Ask the anesthesia providers across the country about what type of product each school puts out (which isn't realistic) and B) Board pass rates. So just ask both schools and see what they say.

Law of large numbers.

Since TCU has only graduated one class, the passing rate of that one class would not be statistically significant in the context of predicting future classes' passing rates.

For the record, I have no idea what TCU's pass rate was.

Since you've already stated there are only two ways to compare schools, I guess that leaves asking anesthesia providers across the country about the type of product each school puts out. Assuming you could do a nationwide survey of anesthesia providers, how many are going to be familiar with TCU CRNA grads when there are probably only a few dozen in existence?

Also, I suspect the reason for a lack of a retort from a TCU alumnus is due to the fact that there are so few in comparison to the number of TWU alumni. It's quite possible there have been none who have read this thread.

Manavi,

It looks like you are still trying to decide where to go. Have you been accepted at both TCU and TWU? If so congrats.

As far as choosing.......I did not apply to TCU, but applied to another program which recently graduated it's first class. Factors I considered include program cost (not a huge factor), pass rate (I personally feel that shows ability of preparing the student to be a CRNA, I realize that that is hard to compare with a new school.), clinical sites (I did not want to move away for the clinical portion of the program, living in a dorm for 4 months was bad enough for me). I don't think it's fair to either school to compare....they are different.

As far as the better school....the one that accepts you and the one which you graduate from and pass the boards. It isn't going to matter where you graduate from in the long run (that's my opinion.....).

Good point.

It's like that old riddle: What do you call a med student who graduates last in his class? Doctor.

I have not been accepted to any school at this point, but I did apply to both Ft. Worth schools and I am scheduled for interviews at each one next month.

I'm not so confident to think I will get accepted to both. But, it sure would be a nice dilemma to have.

Hence me saying a nationwide survey wouldn't be a good idea. Even though TCU only has one graduating class, this year's pass rate will tell you where they are as a program as far as preparing their students. Maybe not 20 years from now but in the immediate future (which you are applying for) its a very good indicator. Whether you think it is or not, you really don't have alot of options as far as OBJECTIVE data to compare. And there are TCU students that frequent this site, just gotta look for them. For the record, having met a few TCU students (and going to clinical with some of them) they seem really cool, so I have nothing bad to say and haven't said anything bad. Just trying to give you a basis in which to compare.
