hello. I am a new grad nurse and curious as to what the starting salary for new grad nurses at a ltc facility is? also, do they usually give an educational differential. any information would be helpful.
thanks allnurses!

I am a new grad with a BSN. I went to 2 different agencies. One offered me a position in LTC in Manhattan for only 25/hr, but with a long orientation. The next agency offered me a LTC position in the Bronx, only 3 days of orientation. Initially they told me $29-31, but ended up offering me $31, which I accepted. So perhaps they do have an education differential, although I didn't ask. This agency also offers sick days, but no health insurance or vacation days. And it's a LOT of work.

I personally would've chosen the longer orientation. I feel that the first 3 months of nursing is really make or break and 3 days orientation is not nearly enough.
Most union position is 36/hr to start

Hi NursyNurse25,
I am also a new grad with my BSN. I just started orientation this week at a LTC through an agency and honestly I am really scared. How is it working for you? could you give me some advice on how to manage the heavy workload? anything would be appreciated. Thanks

JohnetteJJB, I'm not the original person you were asking for feedback, but I just wanted to tell you to take a breath and give yourself some time. It's going to be a little overwhelming for a while. The patient ratios you have now are far above anything nursing school can prepare you for. Take advantage of all orientation time offered and if you're still feeling unsure of yourself- ask for more! While you may not get it just because you ask, you definitely won't if you don't ask at all. And ask questions as well, any that you need to. You should be able to find coworkers willing to take a moment and help out a new nurse (maybe not all of them, but the good ones). Just do your best, and while you may be slow at first you will get faster. No need to cut corners, not even if you see some other do it, do it right and you'll be fine. Good luck!
