  1. I don't think it's ever really worth it to start at an agency as a new grad, only because they usually don't offer benefits. let's face it, healthcare is in the midst of significant changes and while a significant salary is nice, we definitely need unions and benefits to survive. If you do start at an agency, I would still continue searching for a permanent job offer.
  2. oh one more thing: try to just finish your BSN, once you have that in your hand I'm certain you'll be getting callbacks for interviews. there are so many new grads holding a BSN right now and having trouble.. so an ADN will likely not even put you in the competition for a position. don't be too hard on yourself.
  3. I know how you feel. in fact, there's likely a thousand new grads in NYC waiting for positions to open. my advice for you is to network with those in the medical field. sometimes you don't expect who can pass your resume along. second, give yourself an open mind to other areas where nurses are needed, such as clinics, nursing homes.. finally, if you really want to stay within the five boroughs, you need to be patient and let things happen naturally. good luck!
  4. the SNF-LTC facility is in Brooklyn, and yes!! definitely more appealing that what I've read too. if you've explored other threads, you'll read that it is considerable hard work at these facilities also, especially with the patient/nurse ratio. for a new grad in NYC, this opportunity and offer was a blessing.
  5. I found that "high 50s" salary shocking for a SNF-LTC in NYC. I am soon to start in such a facility in NYC and the offer was $77,000+ as a new grad with no prior experience. In addition, it is a days shift position. This was actually a little over $1000 more than that of New York Methodist's offer for a day shift new grad position. Possibly it depends which SNF-LTC facility?
  6. did they specify why you weren't qualified?
  7. hello. I am a new grad nurse and curious as to what the starting salary for new grad nurses at a ltc facility is? also, do they usually give an educational differential. any information would be helpful. thanks allnurses!
