Starting Pay in Roanoke

Published

Hi!

I'm interviewing for a new grad RN position at Roanoke Memorial. I've read that in 2007 the starting salary in Roanoke was about $19/hour. I'm from the Midwest and the starting salary for new grad RNs there is about $27 now. Anyone know what Roanoke Memorial is paying new grads in 2009? One of my best friends got a job as a new grad in Dallas for $25/hour. I know it's another state, but I'm hoping to have a similar salary to start.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

I am not from the Roanoke area but I also live in Virginia. In southeast VA, the starting pay is 20-21 an hour for new grad. So what you've heard about their pay previously might not be too far off. Virginia seems to be one of the states that have relatively lower wages for nurses.

I work at RMH and can tell you it is 19.09 day shift differentials for night shift.

The cost of living in Roanoke is much lower than in Dallas --- and lower than in many other cities in Virginia. I would imagine the hourly wage to be on the low side as well

Does anyone know if Carilion or any hospitals in Virginia (mostly the Southwest ones) pay any for for a BSN? I recall hearing this somewhere. Thanks!

Carilion will pay $.50 more per hour if you have a BSN.

Yes, they do. They will actually pay for your education up to PHd. Consider calling the HR office 540-981-7000 (main hospital number) ask for Human Resources. They will be able to answer specific questions.

Starting pay will be different in any state you look at moving to. Consider the cost of living of the state you are thinking of moving to. salary.com may be helpful.

Starting pay will also vary by city within those states. Hospitals tend to benchmark salaries against similar hospitals within 25 miles.

Roanoke is not an expensive city (housing, etc) as are the other cities in Virginia of similar size. Hourly salaries will be lower there than in Richmond, Tidewater, Charlottesville, NoVa -- but the cost of living will be much less there too.

What is the pay rate like in Front Royal & Winchester area?

Yes they do, not sure how much, maybe .50/hr more than non BSN
