Be knowledgeable regarding orthopedic issues such as total knee arthroplasties, total hip arthroplasties, open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) surgeries, fractures, splints, braces, immobilizers, casts, pins, rods, sutures, surgical staples, CPM machines, heat, ice, laminectomies, kyphoplasties, fusion surgeries, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, end stage degenerative joint disease, compartment syndrome, and other problems.

Pain meds are common on these types of floors. You'll likely be administering plenty of hydrocodone/acetaminophen (Norco), hydromorphone (Dilaudid), morphine, oxycontin, oxycodone/acetaminophen (Percocet), Demerol, fentanyl (Duragesic), tramadol (Ultram), and more.
