Hello Everyone! I am 26 year old mother of two kids ages 6 and 2. I stay at home full time with the kids(the 6 yr old is going into 1st grade) I have not taken any college classes at all and it has been 6 years since highschool...My LPN school does not require any pre-reqs at all..I did have to take the TEAS test and interview! My question is that if I have never taken a college class befor will I be able to take in the info? I am worried that it might be too hard since I havnt had any prior college experience:eek:

get in that program and take that opportunity and run, the programs where I live require all kinds of pre reqs for the LPN program and are all competitive. LPN school is no easy task, but if you manage your time well and study your b-hind off you will get through it with passing colors!

And congrats to you too!

CONGRATS Sylver Girl!!!

WOOT!

:clpty:

I'm so happy for you! I can't wait til I'm in your shoes! I can't imagine how happy you feel right now.

I have my own little update too...

I went to the school and took the compass test and passed everything. So won't need to take any extra classes. AND went ahead and signed up for the A&P class I need to enroll into the LVN program. So I start A&P august 23rd! I've been looking up study tips and the like because I don't ever remember studying for ANYTHING. Even in school. I just read the material, and only ONCE. I retained the info and that was that. Obviously that's not going to work with this class. AND that was a LONG time ago!!

So far my plan is to just read things multiple times, make notes(maybe multiple times?), make quizzes and flashcards, have hubby quiz me..and that's all I've got so far. Is that all studying is?

Wow! Sounds just like me. I am almost 32, I have been out of highschool for 13 yrs, married 11, have 2 children. My daughter is almost 7, and my son is 2. I will be taking night classes starting 8/23. I am taking 4 classes, and have a class everynight! I am excited, and nervous!

We start on the same day! I'm also nervous and excited. At least we know we are not alone! And that we have ppl here on AN to cheer us on!

I am like a lot of people here and you, just older.. :) I am 41yrs old and have 3 children 2 in high school and one in elementary school. I have been a stay at home mom for 16+ years and I haven't been to school since 1990 when I finished some college classes and started working. I start the LPN program in Massachusetts at the end of Aug and I am a nervous wreck. I am in a full time program and it only runs 10months but from what I have heard it is a long tough 10months. I, like you, fear of how I will juggle it all, how I will manage to study enough and the 'right things'.. but after reading all these posts from people in our same boat, and some that have already succeeded it gives me so much hope and courage. Thanks for posting this question, concern and thanks to all that responded. Good luck to you all in everything you do!

Thanks so much for posting this thread! I'm 30 and divorced, never been to college, and I graduated high school back in 1999. I just finished my CNA program, it was fast-track, basically a 4-month program condensed into one month. I was in class 8-4 4 days per week, and I LOVED it! It was stressful at times, having tests 3 days in a row, but I managed to make it through with a 90 average, and I'm happy with that.

My next step will either be a local community college that has an LPN program that requires no prereqs, OR starting prereqs to go directly into an ADN program. Either way, I don't plan on stopping til I get my RN.

I had interviewed with ECPI/MCI about their LPN program...they waited until the 3rd interview with me to tell me they wanted $32,000 and that I should start recruiting family members who could be possible co-signers. I left so fast I probably made their heads spin. Sorry, but I'm not going to pay $32,000 for an LPN program when my local CC has an ADN program for $6,000.

Best of luck to all of you!

Good Luck to all those just starting! I am a 34 year old single mom of a 13 year old, I graduated HS in 1995 and only took one semester of college courses, I did however graduate from and LVN program, third in my class, and passed the NCLEX first time! I admit it was a long 17 months, only 2 week break at Christmas. I missed football, baseball and basketball games, missed helping with homework assignments and lots of other stuff, but looking back now I would not change a thing!!! I am making $10K more then I was at my last job, in corporate America where i was at the same place for 5 years. I did it for my son ad myself. It will be tough at times but you CAN make it! It IS all worth it in the end! Stick it out!!!!

And to the others that have graduated CONGRATS NURSES!!!!:nurse:

Oh! And I took night classes, clincals on Saturdays

For 12 hours AND worked

Fulltime job, if I can do that, then anyone can make it!!!

I start Sept 6th, and Im so nervous I've lost my appetite. Im 35 with 4 kids 15,12,11, and 5, and I work part time for DTV from home. Im so nervous about failing out because I know quite a few people that did. I just completed a social work degree, but I know this will be more challenging. Good luck to everyone who is starting!

this post was needed i am 29 an have a yr left of lpn school ,i did the 18month program i sometimes feel over whelmed trying to do this plus my family life but this post is one of the things that keep me going , thanks

You won't know until you try. Being that I'm on the 25 yr plan to get my RN...laugh..I would but it's true. I have to say that Nursing school is a whole different animal than regular college classes. You shouldn't worry. I think you'll be fine. Just study your anatomy ...that's the one thing you really gotta know. Good luck!

this is all so reassuring! seeing the support and the stories of everyone in your shoes feels really positive. i can be a total downer on myself, "why did i wait so long, now i may as well just give up!" or, "my kids will resent me and i will be depriving my family... how selfish to think i could go back to school". i love the "just do it" attitude and support! great job, everyone! hoping to start LPN program in fall '12 after 13 yrs out of school and 14 as a CNA... oh, and 4 kids. but a very helpful hubby!

Hi all! I was the person who originally posted this question........I am here to say that Jan 4th I graduated first in my class! It was a long 18 months but I did it!!!!! I did miss out on a few important events during the time but I believe it was all worth it... I just took my nclex-pn on monday and found out the next day that I PASSED!!!!! I had 85 questions and was unsure of the results, but in the end it all worked out....Also I had a job interview today so I hope it pans out...It is in LTC and starts out at 17/hr.....I hope to go back to school for my RN in the next few years...until then I am just going to work and make money and get experience.....I just stopped in to let everyone know you can do anything you puy your mind to!!!!!
