Starting an In-Home Care Agency Questions

Hello Everyone!

I am a critical care nurse at a hospital and am branching out and starting an In-Home Care agency, not to be confused with a Home Health agency. I am wondering if anyone reading this thread has worked as an RN in an in-home care agency, has owned an in-home care agency or can put me in contact with someone you know that has worked/owned an agency. If so, I would really love to speak with you directly.

Specifically, I am looking for information on the following:

1. What are the job duties of an in-home care RN and what are they paid? Salary? Hourly?

2. What types of trainings does an RN provide?

3. As an owner, how do I determine pricing?

4. General questions about being an owner?

How is this "not to be confused with a Home Health agency"?

Are you confusing "private duty nursing" with "visiting nurse nursing"? Both types of nursing are provided by a home health agency.

I would suggest that you peruse the Private Duty Nursing forum at https://allnurses.com/private-duty-nursing/ to get an idea of what you're thinking about.

I would also suggest working for another agency first, before branching out and starting your own facility. This will give you an idea of what a shift can entail (which varies considerably based on the client's needs and the level of dysfunction in the client's family) and how things are done.

You also need to talk to an insurance agent and a CPA, and you need to figure out what you have to do to be able to collect reimbursements from the federal government if any of your clients will be covered by Medicare/Medicaid.
