I'm currently in Ontario and am starting a home care agency this June. I've been planning it out for the past four months, have a $3000 grant from the government, and $10,000 of disposable income from my last job.
However, I'm still a second year nursing student and I have to start it this summer to get the grant.
Is there anybody out there who has a home care agency, or is thinking of starting one, and has advice for me? Or even somebody who has started a business as a student. I'd love to keep in touch with you!
P.S. I know it will be difficult as a student. I've worked 40 hour weeks at my previous jobs during the school year while maintaining straight A's. I'm positive that I'm capable of starting it up and gaining clients from June to the beginning of September, as well as maintaining the business during the school year.
I have done some research with Sprint recently, thanks to you. I plan on contacting their staff, and hopefully the owner (if I can find his/her contact information). Thank you for your advice! I have received the grant, and I have a bright outlook for the future!
How did you come about this information? Do you have a general interest in the topic, or are you planning on starting your own agency?
Your welcome for the advice. I have a general interest interest in the topic, I think it is better for seniors and people with disabilities to live in their own homes rather than in LTC facilities. I think Sprint and other non-profit organizations are a cost effective option for people who require assistance with home making or activities of daily living but cannot afford to hire private caregivers.
Absolutely. I have an interest in this topic as well, and that's why I am starting this company. I find that the non-profit organizations that I have looked into cost around the same as a for-profit. I find that even in a non-profit organization, the management give themselves a wage somehow..
Hello all,
I just wanted to give an update that my website, Facebook page, and Twitter page are up and running now, and everything is going extremely well with my endeavor. I have made many new connections, am a member of the chamber of commerce in my area, and my company is part of the living wage campaign. My marketing campaign is going really well and I have a potential client within the first week of launching!
It has been a great experience thus far, and I will keep this thread updated with my progress sometime in the future!

LOL, no I meant greater Toronto area, if you were in the GTA, I was going to suggest you contact the staff at the SPRINT main office and ask if you could interview one of them in person, but since you are in Windsor, it isn't really practical. I think should you read through the entire SPRINT website. If you look at the history of SPRINT you can see the local seniors approached their city councillor, consider meeting your Windsor city councillor to gather support for your idea. Also, consider contacting your Ontario MPPs office for advice about CCAC and whether/how it is applicable to your business.
