Starting in Fall

Hey everyone! I will be starting school this fall and will be working on my prereqs for Nursing. I am doing the BSN course and when I graduate I want to work as a Peds RN. I have had friends in the nursing classes and they do not teach how to do needle sticks. They just let them do it in their clinicals. Shouldnt you learn to do sticks before clinicals?? lol I know I am jumping the gun but I would like to know how to do this when the time comes.

Hi just wanted to say that, learning how to stick in a phleb class may help. However just because you take the class doesn't mean that you'll be a good stick. It's something that is acquired through time and experience. If you go to the sticky on websites, there is a great website there about phlebotomy. Check it out. I agree with the above posters--dont get crazy--enjoy the learning experiences you get. Learning to draw blood and start IVs is something that is mastered with time--and you just don't have enough opporutnities in school to "perfect" it--so most programs leave that to be done "on the job"

hmmmm...congratulation! I thought that I was set for fall 2003, but the nursing college is giving me the run around. Anyway, let me see what is going to happen. I am praying real hard for the opportunity to start my clinicals in fall 2003. Please pray with me.

Don't fret. I got the run around for 2 years from the dean of nursing. I was told that as long as I got a C or better in Chem I would be accepted. I got a B+. When I called to speak with her about my grade, she told me that there were about 200 people in the same boat as me. I was sooo discouraged, but I did get my acceptance letter. I have orientation tomorrow. I know what you are going through, my prayers are with you.
