Starting Emory nursing school for the Fall 07

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hello,

I am so excited about starting Emory nursing school in the fall. I'm coming to Georgia from Louisiana so I hope that it isn't too much of a culture shock . Is anyone else headed to Emory in the fall? Any advice about anything would be great from anyone ;) !!!!

Ok... I guess now I just need to get those nervous jitters out of my system:banghead: It seems like so muck right now because I am moving about 8-9 hours away from home:cry: to come to nursing school (very stressful).

Thanks

Oh yeah...Looooovin' that A&P pre-test. :banghead: Got the certified background thing to work today and I'm going for my drug screen tomorrow. How is everyone holding up? Only 1 month, 2 weeks and 1 day to go!

Oh I haven't touched that. Is it for a grade???? I think that I'm already getting homesick:chair:

Noooooo thank goodness it isn't for a grade. It is just for the instructors to determine what they may need to review. I finally finished it and did alright, I guess. I haven't had A&P in a year and a half so I was very happy with what I remembered.

I am SO FRUSTRATED with my other school. I have requested twice that my final transcript be sent since I graduated in December and my to-do list is still showing Emory hasn't received it. :angryfire My adviser has heard from me so much in the last couple of weeks that I am practically on her Christmas card list this year.

I am sorry you are feeling so homesick! I know how awful that can be. When I first moved to GA I was so down and missed all my friends. Just hang on and when school starts we'll be so busy and you'll have so much company you wont know what to do with yourself.

WOOHOOO!! Clinical preferences came in the mail today! Plus more of the not so fun stuff...like self studying 15 chapters before the first day!

Hey bit1232,

I had a 3.7 GPA and I will only pay for housing, food, books, and uniforms. Any more ? just ask :)

bit-

Wanted to let you know that GPA is really not the "all important" factor for admissions or financial aid at Emory- they are VERY much about the essay, previous experience, and interview.

Amytheodd,

Hey I had two quick questions. Should I buy my books now or wait for school to start? Also, it seems like they are really pushing this PDA thing. I own one but should I try to actually use it in class or will it be more trouble than what it is worth?

Thanks

Hi yuppie2009 I have a question for you what was the admission process for you like a Emory meaning what all did you have to have and go though. Because I want to attend school there also but the cost concerns me a lot. Another thing when did you apply because I want to make sure I can get as many grants as needed to pay for tuition because I want to start in the fall of 2008 or 2009 and would like advice on getting an early start.

what if you don't have a resume (because I don't I never worked anywhere before)

Ok...am I the only one who is falling asleep while trying to get through the HIPAA module?

Student21, I applied early online, I think even before they were accepting applications. As soon as I got my acceptance letter in December, I applied for all the scholarships and NEAT. I was able to cover all of my tuition plus a little more for books and supplies.

At the moment they have us all dancing around in circles completing paperwork and testing. Not to mention we have homework already! Once you are accepted you get to sit and stew for a few months and then BAM! they hit you with everything. It's been fun though...and so worth it.

Yuppie...are you doing alright? Surviving in Atlanta? I am definitely going with the PDA. I would rather not have all those books to carry around. Did you see the thread about book debinding? I am quite interested in that. Amytheodd, what is your opinion on the debinding thing?

See you all in a few weeks

Joanna

What HIPPA MODULE??? Is that the thing that they sent to our e-mail account. TOO Much stuff to keep up with...No I didn't see that thread. I guess I will get the PDA version of as many books as possible. I just need to figure out when to buy. I think that I will need to pay for books before they release the extra money in my account. This would all be a lot easier if I wasn't in the middle of a move.

Ok..admission...well I first wanted to go to law school and I was going to do a joint JD/MSW program. I have work experience so I put my resume together from the volunteer and work expereince that I have. Also..if you think hard enough you probably have done enough in life to create a resume. Mainly its about selling yourself. Try going online and reading about resume's. Since I was getting ready to go to law school I had a book about them. It had a whole section dealing with people who don't have "work" experience. Just think about what makes you the right person for one of those 125 slots at Emory. To be honest, I am not in Atlanta yet but it seems that there is this idea that it is easier to get into Emory nursing than other nursing schools (not saying any of you feel that way or anything like that). If you think about it, all nursing schools get more applications than what they have slots for so remember to "SELL YOURSELF". If you have any volunteer expereince, honors & awards or certifications (that will all work). My financial aid was good but not GREAT. I already have a degree so there is money out there that I can't get because its for 1st time college students who don't have degrees.

OK..back to admission...I applied in October and had an answer by December. One more thing about Emory. They truly do look at the individual person. I believe that they took a chance on me and I am thankful. Honestly, I am not the world's best science student, but I will work and study hard. When I was accepted to Emory I only had 2 of the 6 or 7 required pre-req. completed. OK..so this is more than what any of you really wanted..sorry. Any more questions just ask!!!!!.

..JO JO i feel like a slacker ;)
