...and apparently we are to be prepared to give flu shots to the staff of the LTC facility and the residents the week after.

We have practiced IM injections once. On hot dogs.

S*** just got real.

Cheers.

I love giving IM injections! I do flu clinics for extra money :) I remember the feeling I had when I gave my first injection though... sheer terror! lol you will do fine especially after you do a few! You may even learn to love it like I do!

When I was a student in a LVN program, we administered IM injections of normal saline on each other before being expected to inject patients and residents at clinical rotations.

This is what we are going to have to do.

Oh I remember my first IM. We were doing clinicals in a LTC facility right when they were doing the flu vaccines and the facility had gotten permission prior from all the POA's/guardians of the pts to allow the students to give the vaccine. So we had MORE than enough patients to do IM's on (120 pts in the building, 8 LPN students :)

I remember being very nervous. I took a deep breath and did it. What freaked me out the most was the feel of it. Somewhat like putting a knife tip or fork prong through an uncooked chicken thigh..uhhh kind of made me queasy. Honestly, never felt that sensation again..either because I block it out or I do the injection quicker now haha.

After doing 2 or 3, it was almost like I was on autopilot. Had no issues ever giving an IM again.
