Starting A&P

Published

I am very nervous about starting anatomy and physiology. When i finished high school in 2009 i took anatomy right away and i took it easier then it was and i did not pass. I need some good tips to help me please, and thank you:o

I don't start my A&P class until next semester, but I just wanted to tell you that there are several threads with this subject including a sticky in this section called "A&P Help...from my brain to yours!"...It's full of notes. Good luck :)

Hello! I'm taking anatomy this semester as well and I'm super excited. Months ago I did my research on this class and seen how many students had trouble in the class.. It made me nervous! So I went out and bought Anatomy & Physiology study group 101 and A&P for dummies, and started reviewing some of the material. I also chose my professor by checking out the reviews on ratemyprofessor, happy I did because so far he makes our class very entertaining! I realize my strength when it comes to studying for memorization is flashcards. I'm not into the coloring books or text books. Just find the best way you like to study and stick with it! Remember this class is all about memorization! Just keep in mind were in this together, and this is one step closer to our future.

It is a challenging course, but if you commit the time and effort, you'll do fine. You have to read the text(s), and read them again, and make notes while you read, and review your notes. Try to record lectures and listen to the recordings, perhaps while you're in your car, or whenever you can. It 90% memorization - make use of mnemonics (http://www.medicalmnemonics.com/, among others), and learning word roots and etymology. If you start to understand the parts of words you'll find that many of those parts are used again and again, and you can figure out what words you never heard before mean - i.e. hydrocephalus - hydro means water, cephalus comes from cephalic, which means head. Now you know that any time you see hydro in a word it's going to have to do with water, and any time you see cephalic you'll know it has to do with the head.

Good luck.

Nice website for mnemonics!!

I'm taking AP1 and I'm nervous to death because it's only offered online.. It's a lot of stuff!! Taking it online was a huge mistake..Don't ever take it online...

Read everything, take notes, make note cards, study until you could teach it to someone else. If open lab time if offered take advantage of it. Draw (even if it is stick drawings) everything you see in lab.

Hi im currently in A and P and im not gonna lie its been a rough journey so far..ive never have studied so much in my life... but its def. preparing me for nursing school:) I keep telling myself its gonna be worth it in the long run! So good luck and study lots!
