Updated:   Published

Starting a thread for the New Grad program starting March 2024!

Note from allnurses Staff

As this is one of our most popular new grad residencies on this forum, with hundreds of threads over the years, the allnurses support team wanted to share some additional information on the residency program.

Good luck to all!

Stanford New Nurse Residency Program

The Stanford RN Residency Program, which started in 2006, is one of the most sought-after residencies in the country. The Winter 40 Cohort has a start date of March 18th, 2024.

It is a separate residency program from the Stanford Children's Health (Lucile Packard) Program and the Stanford ValleyCare programs.

Residency Program Pay

The pay is competitive at $81.69/hour plus shift differentials:

  • 10% evenings
  • 18% nights and
  • 5% weekends

Interviews

Interview invites are scheduled to be sent out at the beginning of January, with the interviews taking place from January 29th- February 9th, 2024. There are two separate interviews:

  • Panel level: an approximately hour-long virtual group interview with 4-5 candidates; each applicant will have an opportunity to answer all the same questions
  • Unit Level: a 30-60-minute interview with the hiring manager and potentially other members of the leadership team; this interview could be virtual or in-person

Specialties Offered

There are four specialty areas that participate in the new grad program:

  1. Critical Care
  2. Inpatient Medicine Units
  3. Inpatient Surgical Units
  4. Inpatient Oncology

As well as some additional specialties (subject to change). Applicants are asked to rank their preferences, but you will only be interviewed for one specialty.

Hey guys.. I really kept to the 2 min time limit but other candidates went 4-5 mins in their responses. Wondering if I should have made mine longer too to stand out more.. Anyone feeling similar ? ..?

I feel the same way. I tried to be "concise" and spoke within 2 min. They ddnt seem like they kept track of the time

Same here! The moderator only mentioned keeping answers to 2 min in the beginning...

Mine is at 3pm tomorrow!! How about you?

At 11. I'm so nervous! I thought about picking the 3pm time slot, but I knew I really wanted to get it over with. Good luck on your interview!!

Not at all. One person's introduction took way past 5 mins and they didn't say anything

No one got prompted at the 2 minute mark. I thought they would since they were very specific about keeping our answers " concise "

Even with the behavioral questions LOL some people went way over 2 minutes

I agree. I interviewed last time and they would say when it was the 2 minute mark. But this time nothing so it was unclear and people talked a long time

That's sort of unfair. I wonder if they will dock them for that? But I also feel if they were, they would have been courteous and let them know when they got to 2 mins.

Yeah well.. I guess there was no way of knowing beforehand.. I wish I chose more complicated stories.. Feel like mine were too simple and short..

Same here. They said when you got to two minutes and the moderator wasn't nice about it either so it was super nerve wrecking.
