Standard Precautions?

Published

Just wondering if anyone knew why pneumocystis jivoveci pneumonia (PCP) would require standard precautions and not droplet? I was doing a practice question from my nclex book and the answer was standard precautions.

Because it's an opportunistic infection that takes over the lungs of immunocompromised people. It's normally found in the environment and wouldn't cause a problem in the lungs of a healthy person.

^^^^that's right

Thanks guys, I have another question lol what does standard precautions imply then with this pt? Just washing hands? no gloves, gowns, mask etc right?

Standard precautions are the same as with any pt. Washing hands and wearing gloves when in contact with soiled items or body fluids. I would also be very careful not to introduce infection to this pt since he is immunocompromised.

Thank you ! ;-)

If I can't come up with the answer any other way with infection control questions, I go with standard precautions. That is my standard guess.
