Staffing Coordinators

I am a staffing coordinator for a LTC facility and need some advice. I believe that I have a great relationship with all of the employees. What does your staffing coordinator do to make your job easier? more fun?

We are a very diverse group and I have learned how to acknowledge someone in 7 different languages...so when you come aboard I can say hello! I go out of my way to help people (within policy) with staffing issues. I believe that I am pretty good but I would like to step it up a notch. I have about 10 RNs, 60 LPN's, and about 100 CNA's. Tell me what makes you happy.

Our staffing coordinator does her best to give me the days I ask for with paid time off, without a hassle, and gets back to me quickly. I can make plans ahead of time, without having to wonder if I will get the day(s) off or not. And when I ask for a special day off, she doesn't make me work another one to make up for it. That's a great perk, and we love her!

Handle vacation request promptly. I've known nurses who only found out the night before that they actually had been given requested vacation time!

Listen objectively. Never take sides, we all know it happens, it just shouldn't be obvious.

And continue to believe in your workers. Families aren't always right..

Good Luck.
